nursing nursing nursing...if you can handle the job mentally and physically, it's a great career to get into.  Even more so if you're a dude.  Tough job though (although it doesn't have to be, especially once you've "paid your dues" (in the metaphorical way, not the literal "union" way)).

The mantra I'v always heard was engineering or pre-med/med. Sort of rebelled going the Math/Econ route.

I think its somewhat biased by the fact that a lot of CEO's come from Econ backgrounds than any other.

Actual Econ jobs are not as lucrative.

I have no idea if that's a good thing or not.  I'm retarded when it comes to economics.

It depends on which jobs. I heard that advertising executives make a lot of money.

What does econ have anything to do with it?

Just figure out what your friends and family make and where you'd place likewise.

Even than "advertising executive" is not an actual Econ job.

Most actual Econ jobs which are in research, academia, government, banking and pay like $100,000 mid-career but only after a Ph.D sometimes.

Though what a lot of employers think when they see an Econ graduate is that the guy is analytical and needs hella training and is likely to be a good CEO by mid-career (advertising executive is an example like you mentioned).

Heh. They likely don't work in a poli sci related job to boost their salary/income.

It depends a lot on where you live, but in most places 38,000 is plenty for a single just starting out - you won't be rich obviously, but it's enough to pay the rent, eat out once in a while, go out on the weekends, and go on a trip or two every year. $70,000 makes one pretty middle class.

The government should provide incentives on student loans based on major choice, if they do not already do so.

Christ, talk about opposing choice.

Anyway, looking at majors depresses me, but at least they included some reasonable ones - Philosophy, History, English.

Woohoo!  Looks like I chose the right major, haha.  Econ all the way!  I actually want nothing to do with Econ once I graduate though.  I'm headed for Real Estate Development in grad school.  Should be joyous...

I don't mean to be offensive, but it sounds very strange to have a masters degree in 'Real Estate Development'.  Its like getting a PhD in 'Wheeling and Dealing'.

I know, it is strange.  It's a new thing, so I'm not 100% on it yet.  I'm still deciding between that and Urban Planning.  Which in essence would give me the same education but with more of a traditional focus on more tangible classroom topics.  On the other hand I might just skip it and jump right in.

Must be nice!  Of course, I guess we're still 3-4 years away from the point at which you could actually sell anything.

Not radical incentives.  But progressive interest rates.

It makes rather more sense to charge people who receive more higher rates, and people who receive less lower rates.
