The retired general isn't fit to wear the uniform. 

His duty is to protect and defend the people of this country, no matter what color, size, sexual orientation, etc.

If he can't serve with people that are different than him, then he is not fit to serve because his own bigotry could put the nation at risk.

That is my one fear about ending DADT.  I'll tell you this - if I were gay and in the military, I wouldn't be coming out even if DADT were repealed.

DADT is simply incompatible with a country where some places recognize gay marriage and civil unions, as enrolling in one can now get you discharged.
