 NBC Announcer: Welcome to Election Night 1948, with this being the first election to be on both Television and Radio, let's get to the results.

At 7:00 PM six states have closed, with everyone close:

Georgia: Too close to call but with Thurmond leading

Indiana: NBC News projects that Governor Dewey will be the winner


South Carolina: NBC news projects that Thurmond will win his home state.


Vermont: Too close, but with Dewey leading

Virginia: Too close but with Thurmond leading

Current National Map:

I apologize for Hawaii and Alaska being on the map, but it's the only map with Grey states on it.

I would suggest updating by year, as updating by month will be way too long. I look forward to reading it. If you want, you can even update it by four years (as in Dewey's first term, then Dewey's second term, etc.).
