We could strike the first point in the bill and use this bill as a trial run. If we do see susepcted socks vote from cell phones, and they have never voted before using them, then we can begin to work on an alternative.

I will admit that if we do decide to ban cell phones, this bill will need to be amended a great deal more to extend the voting period and could force a constitutional amendment to pass. Are we taking on too much and one time? Perhaps we can keep it simple for now. But when I see 6 sock accounts voted in the Northeast Senate election, which was decided by a few votes, I want to do something.

BADGER: See my previous post for my response to your post.

Did you mean to say the third point (paragraph) of the bill? The one relating to banning cell phone voting?

Senators, we are now voting on the following amendment. Please vote aye, nay, or abstain.

Amendment:

1.  Responsibility for enforcement of this law shall be vested in a Moderator General.  The Moderator General shall be a Cabinet position, requiring nomination by the President and confirmation by the Senate.  The Moderator General must be a moderator on the Atlas Forum.

2.  The Moderator General shall publicly announce violations of this law, in the thread maintained by the Department of Forum Affairs.

Since there hasn't been a hue and cry from moderators ineicating this is an unworkable proposition,

AYE, for now.

I wish I had responded to this thread earlier (I was a little busy...), but several problems I foresee include--

1) If it is a Cabinet position, then would such a person would need to be a citizen (registered voter) of Atlasia? If so then our options would even be more limited.

2) Given the limited number of potential moderators, we may have problems with them already holding another office. Peter is a moderator active in Atlasia but he is already on the HAEV, for example.

3) Some of the moderators are awful (Gustaf, for example) and should not be sanctioned by Atlasia in anyway.

Ideally we would come to an agreement with Dave that would allow us to pick Atlasia's moderators, but I realize he isn't the most responsive. Instead we seem to be stuck with the same two moderators forever. Gustaf is a vindictive, petty, and useless. MasterJedi seems fine for the most part, but supposedly knew about at least one of the Hamilton drones long before it was public and didn't do anything about it, so I have some reservations about him as well.

I will hesitantly vote aye for the amendment and hope we can get someone like Lunar or Alcon in there.

Another question--would there be any conflict with a cabinet member posting IPs publicly, or was that resolved via a constitutional amendment? I want to say it was but my memory is a little fuzzy here. Wink

I have passed, and will continue to pass, on moderating boards I do not post on.

Or maybe he's just someone who just reads Atlasia for fun, but doesn't actually post? He never said he doesn't read these boards.

The final text of the bill is as follows. I added the Article headings to clean up the bill, post-amending.

Why does a moderator need a position? Why can't they just do it? We have plenty of moderators who are involved in Atlasia who I'm sure would be more than willing to help.

The moderator general would have to be an Atlasia mod for this to work. For instance, Peter couldn't check the IP of a post in the Voting Booth. At least that's what I've come to understand from the moderators.

I occasionally post from AOL, would that be a problem while voting?

Your IP is posted on every post you make.   You can check yourself by googling your IP after you post from AOL.

And Segway is correct.  The moderator would have to be moderator of the board where the voting thread exists. But that can be fixed.
