I would like to announce the formation of the Liberty Caucus. I know there have been other incarnations of this in the past, or at least its ideals, but I think it deserves one more shot.

This caucus is founded on, basically, the belief that government is capable of doing much more harm than good, and should be as small as possible. This caucus would like to welcome all liberty-leaners, regardless of party, to unite in hopes of reducing the scope of government in Atlasia.

One key issue in Atlasia that is central to this caucus is the HAEV. It is the belief of anyone joining this caucus that the HAEV represents nothing more than a government body that decides who can or can’t vote. It is a body formed with the intent of disenfranchising certain voters, yet leaving others’ rights intact. Some of its nominations have little reasoning other than voting patterns, or ideology. It seems to be nothing more than a tool to protect incumbency. It is nothing more than a tool in a witch-hunt, a cog in a machine.

This caucus would like to push for cuts to the income tax, payroll tax, and the gasoline tax. We recognize that some taxation is necessary to fund the government, but much like government itself, should be small and non-encumbering.

I recognize that there are those who would favor a more encroaching policy to civil liberties yet claiming to adhere to a small government philosophy. I welcome your membership, but know that this caucus was not formed with the intent of turning a blind-eye towards civil liberties, and will not be used to advance such ideals.

I would like our platform to be small, but if anyone has anything they’d like to add I’m open ears. One last thing that should be included is that it is our official policy to write-in Chuck Norris if NOTA is endorsed. (Written by Dallasfan65, co-authored by Jbrase, aka Freedom, aka Chuck Norris)

Would anyone like to join?

P.S: One thing that might be useful is electing a chairman, but I suppose we should negotiate that after there are some members.

I was a member in 2005. I'll join this one. (Didn't someone start one a month or so ago?)

I attempted to make one, but it never really got started. There was pretty much 6 pages of infighting over the name.

I'd like a membership too please.

The Liberty Foundation we founded last month is not the same thing; it's more of an advocacy group. We're going to get started with that when this election cycle is over.

Excellent. I still welcome members, but I would like to allow the members to make nominations for chairman. Members may either nominate themselves, or other members of the caucus.

Voting will end tomorrow, 10:00 PM EST.

Sorry, I'm not clear on the standard procedure.
Are we having a period of nomination followed by a period of voting? Or does a nomination count as a vote?

We're actually just nominating. I'd like to hold a vote in 24 hours though.

Hopefully someone here is good with the IRV math.
