Yes, according to State Delegate Bob Marshall (R) of Virginia:

These guys shouldn't feel forced to comfort me in some bad expectations I can have for this country over there...

A resounding no. Somebody who says something like that has no knowledge of what the Bible has to say on the matter.

Delegate Bob Marshall is god's punishment on Manassas for the Confederate's capture of Congressman Ely of NY after the Battle of First Manassas in 1861.

Those words are really evil and/or stupid. The fact that someone like that man was elected by voters to represent them is just insane. It's not only very cruel for disabled kids to be called "God's punishment", but also innacurate from every point of view. Shame on him.

Well, the way things are headed, this guy ought to be the Republican nominee for President in no time.

"In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord."

The world would be a better place if we could just take all of our societal and legal cues from the Old Testament, clearly.

No. What a stupid thing to say. Many women who have never had abortions end up giving birth to disabled kids. BTW, I thought Manassas was a liberal city? How come they elected a staunch hyperconservative like this one?

That's not a Conservative viewpoint; it's a nut job viewpoint. I'm absolutely, 100% against abortion, and I'm a Bible-believing Christian, and I find this statement ridiculous. I absolutely believe that the ills of the world stem from Adam's allowing sin to come into the world, but this is just plain crazy.

I definitely agree with what some earlier posters have said: this guy obviously has no real Biblical knowledge, and obviously women who have never had an abortion can have disabled kids. One example who has been very much is the news lately is Sarah Palin's son.

Let me finish by saying that I absolutely love children. It is my intention to go to Saint Petersburg, Russia and work as a children's missionary - hopefully with orphans and street children - and anyone who would try to make political fodder out of a child from either side is absolutely disgusting.

Makes sense to me. I think we should probably see that after the names of a lot of politicians.

That's NOVA for you.

Manassas is hardly a liberal town, and NOVA (outside Alexandria and Arlington) is hardly a liberal region. It (Manassas) is also quite small - the constituency is presumably rather a bit larger.

Delegate Marshall was clearly a severe God's punishment for his mother.

Well not liberal but certainly not radically socially conservative. I doubt the area around Manassas is either. Just surprising, there are plenty of areas in Virginia prone to elect nutjobs, Manassas doesn't seem like the most likely location.

I agree with Scott.  As a Bible-believing Christian from Oklahoma and someone who had a neurological disorder as a child, which in the medical sense was a disability and friends with parents of children with disabilities, I believe that the contrary is more true.  Sometimes disabled children are a blessing from our Heavenly Father.  My "disability" has caused me to rely on my God more and made me who I am today.  If I hadn't had the disability, I don't think I would be as good of a Christian, because I would have probably been more arrogant and rebellious thinking my body was somehow perfect.
