I do wish Senators would think about the purpose of something before they happily vote in favor.

Guys, why not, y'know, give something a chance before you kill it?

While I think HAEV is a mess right now, we need to give it a chance before we kill it off.

This is one of the most ridiculous things to pass the Senate in a good while.

That's the point Duke (and BK). This bill doesn't kill off the HAEV. It merely shuts off temporarily their power to deregister voters until we see for sure if the process can work. If it proves it can, the decisions it made during the cooling off period are ratified and the commission continues on it's job. If the process is shown to be unworkable, we can kill it off at that time knowing we gave the idea a fair shot.

But, bottom line, in the meantime the HAEV is still alive.

The HAEV has acted completely appropriately so far and hasn't even been in full operation for weeks. What makes it a mess is constant interference and uncertainty as to its legitimacy.

If the Senate backed the body up forcefully, people would relent and let it do its job. Instead, you have hedged and second-guessed on a body stocked with the best and most fair-minded individuals in this game at the behest of conspiracy theorists.

Quite so.

This is like something Naso would have introduced. Except that this one will probably pass.

so,

ayes: Badger, Hans, Tmthforu94, Fritz
nays: Me, NCYankee, Hashemite, Duke
abstaining: MaxQue, Mint

JCP is 3-1-1, DA is 1-1, RPP is 0-2, POPs are 0-0-1

Interesting party split, to say the least!

So much for the JCP! Tongue

Veep? Oh wait we don't have one, do we?

So we wait till a week after I opened the vote to fail it, unless Maxy or Minty decide to alleviate the deadlock.

I've decided that I will veto this if it passes, so the Senate could save some time by changing a vote. Or maybe Afleitch swears in within a week and wants to sign it? I don't remember.

In that case,

Nay to Aye

This bill has enough votes to pass, Senators have 24 hours to change their votes.

FLIP-FLOPPER!

But seriously, amusing trick, voting Aye to kill a bill. Probably not a first in Atlasian history, but an odd quirk of our political system.

With four nays, this is unlikely to be overidden so I would say to Badger not to waist his time requesting it.

I won't. Would I reintroduce it again immediately? It depends. What is your position on this measure again, Mr. President-elect?
