This is a piece worth reading on Romney's potential 2012 strategy:

So the slimeball's own campaign is basically admitting that Romney's newfound conservatism in 2008 was all a fraud as part of a failed campaign strategy.

Why should voters trust 2012 Romney any moreso?

Maybe he'll be more competitive in those southern states if he has a sudden 'conversion' to Southern Baptism. Wink

Mitt don't need to pretend to be someone else (and he didn't, that were myths).

People will trust economic expert after economic collapse caused by Obama.

Sir, have you seen the 1994 senate debate with him and Ted Kennedy?

As far as winning without the South, he nearly took Florida in the 2008 primary.  If he were able to pull that off, it'd give him a huge boost even if the rest of the Deep South went Palin or Huckabee.

Against economically poor Palin or Obama? Yes, they will.

Basically Romney's campaign is saying that he is a liar.  Romney is the best kind of politician and worst kind of person.

I'll put my trust in Romney over some internet fad in Gary Johnson. I'd also rather not vote for Obama in 2012 if I can stand it, and I will if Huck or Palin is the GOP nominee.

If Palin is the nominee I might also vote for Obama.

Well, this has been an idea of my reasoning (and most others) of why he will win the nomination. Although, it is hard to say this far out. It isn't flip-flopping, it's just a change in political strategy. While I'm sure he will keep his social views, he will focus on the economy and foreign policy more. I think that Romney and his team have developed a strong strategic sense and have made a good strategy.

Not saying that anything of this isn't questionable, but it shows good political sense.

Why don't we wait for his book to come out before labeling him a flip flopper again, or a fake conservative?

What does his book have to do with anything? It's already clear that he's a flip flopper and a fake conservative, and his book if anything will only reinforce that.

He's a one term governor from liberal mass.  I just don't think he is the electoral heavyweight his PR firm makes you believe.  He's ahead in all these fake polls.  He leaned right last time, but he lost to Huckabee and McCain, who were more right on social and military issues.

His only trump card is the economy, but I'm not sure voters would sell out their social/military values.  He's barely a VP candidate.  GOP voters will find a better candidate on both social and military issues.

But I will say that Romney is a better candidate than Giuliani, which isn't really saying much.

Hm, something I haven't considered. As it turns out, the 2002 gubernatorial election was the only election he ever won.

And as far as the economy is concerned, he's almost as bad (maybe just as bad) as he is on other issues.
