Kings are traditionally too power hungry.

Yes, because it is by far the best country in the world, and I live there now.

And my reason why not is I have a ideological problem with unelected leaders.

Yes.

The American system of power division is restrictive and often prevents the nation from operating in a proper fashion. We are unable to pass any legislation that isn't deemed largely bipartisan (which in this country means full of useless provisions) and it's denying our nation progress.

I think what you're thinking of there is an absolute monarchy, not a constitutional one.

Note that I said the American system. I am not against division of powers, only the useless American system of dividing them. I think more along the lines of a parliamentary system that shares power with a monarch (like in England, where the monarch's powers are extremely limited).

But of course I would always prefer a republic over a monarchy if there were some kind of a referendum or something.

No, but it would certainly be preferable to any form of democracy.

You're entering self-parody now.

Constitutional monarchy is in general more or less democratic.

Maybe in practice, but it is not by definition.

Yes, because they have a balance of power and most of them are developed.

It wouldn't be so bad. Having a monarch as the symbol of conservatism crowds out other more nefarious rallying points.

If what you are really asking is whether we Americans would like to live once again under British rule, the answer is no.

That's not what he's asking Frodo (he's asking wether you Americans would mind to be under Spanish rule)

Yes, I live in one now, and I'm very happy here. My second country of choice to live in is Denmark, another constitutional monarchy, so...

But in practice is what matters.  Theory and definition are only so helpful.

Indifferent.  Granted keeping up monarchical appearances costs money, but then maybe the POTUS budget could be stripped of a lot of pomp and ceremony costs. Whatever.

Now if the monarch is a Prince Charles type, I might have to take that back. Seeing his dumb horsey face on the tube and listening to his even dumber comments, might be a bridge too far.

I live in one already.

"Living" in a constitutional monarchy isn't bad, so yes. But if there was a referendum on becoming a republic, I'd obviously vote YES, especially here in Canada where the monarchical institutions are outdated, stupid and mainly consists of draining government money.

I don't really think it makes a different one way or another- it's still basically a democracy.
