Can someone make a map of the states each candidate would win if the following candidates were to run:
Romney
Palin
Thune
Jindal
Cantor
Pawlenty
Johnson
Gingrich

Assume all states have an important primary or caucus this season.
JUST THE ABOVE CANDIDATES!!!

Nate Silver took a look at this with a focus on Palin:

Very interesting, and largely something I agree with.

The GOP primaries are all screwy b/c they're winner take all and you don't need a majority.

Actually, they are not all winner take all.  PA isn't, for example.

I'd assume Palin would flop horribly before Iowa even comes and Thune takes it easily. Romney wins New Hampshire, and most of the northeastern states, possibly Florida, but Thune takes most of the rest. Johnson wins Vermont, maybe a couple other peripheral states. Pawlenty MIGHT win MN if he stays in, but I don't think he would after losing Iowa and New Hampshire.

I mostly agree with that map, though I'm not sure Romney would win Wyoming. No real "reason" to say that, it's just a gut feeling. I think Idaho would probably be a little closer, though the high number of Mormon voters in the State would probably put Romney over the top. I also think Nevada, New Hampshire, and Iowa would be a little more lopsided, but other than that, I agree.

Palin wins Iowa, Pawlenty wins New Hampshire after an important endorsement from John McCain. Romney wins South Carolina.

Devilman,

I'd switch Illinois to Palin.  Brady won the GOP nomination for the governor's race and Kirk would have lost easily to Ditka.

Looks like a very weak field.  I'm sure some of the veteran polticians will come in and beat Palin and Romney.  Huckabee would jump back in.  Barbour would definitely beat Palin and Romney in both Iowa and SC.
