I was thinking about this the other day and there are two different but related issues.

Liberals are looking at just teen birth rates as a problem. Conservatives are looking at sexually active teens as a the first problem and that leads to teens having children which is the second problem. Do those on the left look at sexually active teens being a problem, or is it only a problem if it leads to pregnancy?

I think liberals look at sexually active teens as a problem only if they get STDs or if they get pregnant. I think liberals are OK with people having sex as long as they take necessary precautions. BTW, what is your position on this issue?

no unwanted pregnancy. totally different.
I can only speak for myself. And I think the act of sex is good and all, but the people having it need to beable to be mature enough to do it. So it does differ for each person.

No. I prefer the timehonored European tradition of infanticide.

Of course -they are far preferable in preventing an unwanted pregnancy than an abortion.  As such, I would like them to be as widely available as possible, with teenagers knowing how to use them through mandatory (yes, mandatory) comprehensive sex education programs in all public schools.

Why are you emphasizing mandatory so much? It sounds like you have a hard-on for fascistic social control.

So that women know that they can prevent getting pregnant when they are having sex.

Well how stupid are they that they need an entire school course at taxpayers' expense to teach them basic biology? Why isn't biology class covering this already?

Yes.  The more men and women are able to prevent STD transmission and unwanted pregnancies, the better.

This is why, as a male, I support Planned Parenthood.  They provide advice and contraceptives to women so that those women can make their own decisions about sex and having children.

If we can prevent an abortion before the choice is ever forced, I call that a victory.

First time I actually agree with you on this issue to a point.  If only the PA Legislature got the hint.

Or morning-after pills. And then they complain about the huge amounts of people having abortions there. No wonder.

Yes, and this thread shouldn't exist as it makes those who believe otherwise that they actually have a compelling argument.

Absolutely, and the developing world could definitely use more birth control, contraceptives, and sex ed, as well. That would solve a lot of problems.
