I'm doing the laundry now (Don't ask me why I'm doing the laundry at 3AM. It's an old habit left over from college.) and needed to run another dry cycle but was out of quarters. So I ran outside to my car to get some more since I have some in there. Well then I noticed the car parked right in front of my apartment has Iowa license plates. Anyone who lives in the Midwest knows that Iowa license plates have the country printed on them as well at the bottom. Normally I wouldn't pay attention or care, but this one caught my eye. The county on the bottom: SIOUX.

Now I don't know if this person actually lives in my apartment (with the way parking is in my neighborhood probably not), or even in the city, but the thought of someone from there living in Minneapolis seems just bizarre and a little creepy. Granted they might be a liberal refugee on the other hand, that would make sense. In which case I'm just scared thinking of what their childhood was like.

The crazies are out to get you BRTD. My advice would be to assemble all of your belongings and take the first flight to Bangkok as soon as you can. God only knows how close they are to getting you now..........

“You know, the most amazing thing happened to me tonight. I was coming here, on the way to the lecture, and I came in through the parking lot. And you won’t believe what happened. I saw a car with the license plate ARW 357. Can you imagine? Of all the millions of license plates in the state, what was the chance that I would see that particular one tonight? Amazing!” - Richard Feynman.

The lunatic is on the grass
The lunatic is on the grass
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs
Got to keep the loonies on the path
The lunatic is in the hall
The lunatics are in my hall
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forbodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon
The lunatic is in my head
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'till I'm sane
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon

Uh, as I've posted many times, I LIKE Iowa. I just don't like the brainwashed Calvinist cult in the northwest.

What would really be scary is driving on a freeway, and seeing that the car next to you has Shannon County, South Dakota license plates. Tongue

South Dakota doesn't do the county thing. But I've already lived in an area very similar to Shannon anyway. It actually is kind of scary, just not in the way you're thinking of. Kind of David Lynch-esque at times. Imagine a bunch of snow everywhere but the prairies and hills still visible in the background due to no tall buildings. The houses are mostly fit for being condemned but aren't. There's a lot of clearly abandoned warehouses around but they stay up because no one will pay to demolish them. Full of graffiti. The streets are full of empty pop cans and empty bottles of mouthwash. Lots of mouthwash because everyone knows it's a cheap source of alcohol. Only people out on the streets is a girl about 9 or 10 or so and her sister tagging along, probably about 4. The older girl has a bag and she's collecting the cans. The money recycling centers pay for them is actually rather needed for their family clearly. I DID see exactly that the last time I was there. No doubt I saw equally surreal things when living there, but because I was used to it and didn't know anywhere else, I didn't realize how surreal they were.

One thing I did remember though, one of those abandoned buildings actually did get demolished. The reason it was targeted was because many of the locals believed it was haunted and wanted to get rid of it. No seriously. That's the actual reason it was demolished.

BRTD you should've waited there until the owner of the car came back, then asked them what the hell is wrong with their county.

Just kidding, but seeing the look on their face when told that there are Internet discussions devoted to the freakishness of Sioux County would be funny.
