Yes. Although, generally, if they're more conservative, I try not to bring up politics in a discussion.

At least half, and probably more than half, of my friends are Republicans...ranging from one or two moderates to lots of mainstream conservatives and a couple of Theocratic extremists.

Admittedly, in some cases...we have to limit our conversation to sports or some other shared interest.  But most of the time, I enjoy the political give and take and learn a great deal from those who differ from me.  All I ask is that they disagree civilly.  And I try to do the same.

I am very picky about who I consider to be my "friends."  Everyone else is just an acquaintance.  So the answer would be no - I don't think I could be good friends with someone who's views conflict too much with mine.

I'd RATHER be friends with someone with different political views, assuming they didn't view the gays as subhuman or constantly try and convert me and whatnot

Yes.  In fact, my best friend and my current girlfriend are both hard core Dems.

Preferably not, but I have one Republican friend. He's also a hipster and wears skinny jeans and listens to obscure experimental noise pop. We just don't talk about politics ever.

What does he have going for him then?  Friendship should have a three strikes law.

Yeah, same here. I'd say I know maybe two people who have really similar views to me.

My best friend is a sarkozyst, so yes. All the more that I enjoy having political discussions with him : it's far more interesting to discuss with someone I disagree with.

Yes, I had a pro-ADQ friend. He is still my friend, but isn't pro-ADQ anymore.

BRTD is very moderate.

As for me, I used to mostly have friends of different political views, but as time goes by I find it harder and harder.  By that I mean, the right-wing person becomes re-categorized as a kind of second-rate friend, not that I dispense with them for good and all.  However I should add as a caveat that if the person understands our brutal society in a reasonable Marxist fashion and simply embraces it in beastly self-serving enthusiasm I have no problem with him.  However, the great majority believe a lot of utter rot and are deluded, so they're thus inferior people and less suitable as friends.

Of course, and I do. My friends cover the waterfront from Marxist to hard right Republican. Granted, I don't have any fundamentalist religious friends, nor ones who are bigots.
