Three things BRTD
1. Putin actually seems to be able to accomplish his agenda
2. Putin is not a mental midget
3. Putin wouldn't committ such idiocities as Dubya did

Sorry, NiK, but I live too close to Russia to have an Californian luxury to underestimete him. Beside, world is moving from two-way or one way to multiple-ways in foreign policy.

Bush was a good man with good intentions, but failed in so many areas of his presidency. Many of the things that happened were out of his control, yet many things he intended to do went unaccomplished because of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. He's not a horrible person by any means, but he wasn't a good president. He had such potential, but failed to capitalize on the leverage he had, which is sad. That said, I'd rather have him in office than the man currently occupying the White House.

Bush was a poor President, especially in foreign policy. In domestic policy I understand that there was nothing he could have done to prevent the financial crisis (except encourage Greenspan not to lower interest rates so much and to raise them much sooner, but that would have almost certainly cost him reelection). However, my real problem with Bush is his poor foreign policy. He should have bombed Iraq strategically (not throw some rocket somehwere like Clinton did). If that did not work, he should have made noises about invading Iraq to see if Saddam would respond. In reality Saddam offered to allow the U.N. inspectors back into Iraq days before Bush was set to invade, but Bush declined the offer and proceeded to invade anyway, possibly in order to get reelected (he needed a distraction for people to overlook his poor economic record and poor economy). Also he should have bombed Iran to prevent them from building nukes after he clearly saw that diplomacy did not work. Also Bush's attitude towards North Korea caused them to withdraw from NPT and build nuclear weapons. Bush really screwed up in foreign policy. The last president to screw up nearly (but not quite) as badly in foreign affairs was Wilson, 90 years before.

He basically did everything in his power to flush the country down the metaphorical and literal (New Orleans) toilet, which is of course hilarious and sad at the same time.
