Hey all!  I've been in office for 5 days now, and I've finally gotten around to opening my new office building.  If anyone has any questions, comments, concerns, pieces of legislation they'd like to suggest, please post them here.

Thanks Smiley

There's a mini-fridge in my office; it's all Samuel Adams, though.  I also have wine grown at the Ingleside Vineyards by a private Virginia resident.

I have just introduced the The Mideast Anti-Troll Act into the Assembly, and I hope to see debate begin very soon.  Fell free to comment on it, in this thread, the Assembly thread, or PM me.

I'm not sure I can support this legislation Ben. It has good intentions, but I think that it might have drastic consequences. For example, Einzige cannot really be held responsible for trolling can he? And if this bill was passed (without that provision excluding the four on there), he would be banned from serving office and voting.

There will indefinitely be circumstances where people on the list don't really deserve to be on it, and I think this bill would infringe upon their rights.

Maybe establish a "Mideast TrollList Review Board" thing (appointed by the Gov.)  that could review the Mideasterners on the TrollList, and decide whether they can be eligible for office/voting?

Giovanni, I think Einzgie is immune because of ex post facto provisions.

I'd also support your suggestion for a review panel, is it helps the bill gain support.

Just curious--what need is there for a regional review panel when the mods of all people have banned the person?

They can still vote, and run for office; my legislation prevents that.

Why would you want to do that? If a person is legitimately a "troll", I highly  doubt he/she could get into an office anyway. And I don't really see being on a list that a handful of people (NO offense to Mods!) should have the ability to restrict their rights, especially since that people that don't really deserve to be on the list have no real way to appeal the decision.

Exactly my point.  Just because this is not the situation now, doesn't mean it cannot become the situation down the road, and we should act now to prevent this.

I made it clear that IMO you have nothing to do in the trollist. So you should know who are the people I'm refering to.

Exactly.  It is possible for a troll to get elected to office, and I think we're better off with barring them.  Remember, a troll cannot take part in actual debate; they would just be there to vote.  It is better, then, to just prevent such a situation from arising.

But if a supposed "troll" can make a good Assemblyman, who are we to stop him?

I have to admit, that exact example is the biggest reason I can see to consider supporting this bill.

Because there's no guarantee they could be a good Assemblyman, and they won't be a good Assemblyman, because all they can do is vote.  It basically creates a zombie Assemblyman, and we don't want that, it isn't good for the Region.

But we shouldn't restrict voting rights to anybody merely because their name is on a list of supposed "trolls" that a select group of people are in charge of creating. Mideasterners who probably aren't guilty of anything might be stripped of all rights merely because one particular person thought he was a troll. If a "troll" is legitimately a loon, I doubt the public would vote him into office.

Plenty of loons have been elected to office throughout Atlasia in the past.
