Really? I think that Wilson would easily beat Harding if he beat Hughes, who was much more experienced and well-known than Harding. Why would people vote out a wartime President (even though the U.S. wasn't yet officially at war) for someone whom they never even heard of (before winning the nomination in 1920, no one outside of Ohio ever heard of Warren G. Harding).

Harding fails to unite both wings of the party, and Wilson is able to take a percentage of progressive swing voters.

This map seems about right. Delaware, New Jersey, and New York might also go to Wilson though, since there were many Progressive Republicans in those states that would have probably preferred Wilson over Harding.
