I was looking at the old board, reading through the old discussions, and I came across this old Jmfcst post:

"You give [Al Gore] too much credit, for he believes is was born to be President, just like his dad taught him.  I think there is 100% chance he will run in 2004."

100% Chance?  Smiley

Well, that 100% chance statement was made on 5/29/2002 and it probably DID reflect Gore's thinking at the time.  But months later I changed my tune and thought Gore wouldn't run, and sure enough he didn't:

jmf on 11/26/2002 <<Here is a CBSNYT poll that has Gore's favorability rating at 19% and with independents, his rating is 17%!!!!...I wished they would NOT publish these polls on Gore.  I would hate for him to get the impression that people don't like him.  It may just convince him not to run in 2004.>>

jmf on 12/12/2002 <<Unfortunately for us in the GOP, we may not have Gore to kick around in 2004.  Tonight on Hardball, he acted as if he just attended his own funeral.  There was absolutely no fire inside of him.>>

Gore dropped out on 12/15/2002.

But hey, at least you're reading my posts! Smiley

I wasn't reading your posts in particular, I was just reading the old forum discussions when I stumbled across that post of yours.

BTW, doesn't Gore always act like he's attending his own funeral???

I think Kerry is a stronger canidate in 2004 than the Gore repeat would have been.

I love looking at the old forum.  It's like seeing all of your friends in some kinda circa 1920's black and white movie.

Poor guy. He was at the crossroads of history and he didn't make it. Nixon's story should give him comfort though. Even if he doesn't get elected in 2008, it just shows one election isn't everything.
