I think 2012 will be a sizeable GOP victory. 2020 is the next super close election.

The Republican base has shrunk dramatically, so a GOP victory could only match Obama. 1984 is not happening again anytime soon.

2016. I think by then, the GOP will have recovered enough to win fairly easily though.

2016. I ran some numbers and got the GOP winning the popular vote and picking up FL, VA, OH-- but the Dem still winning 272-266 EVs.

In all seriousness, protracted election nights are going to get rarer and rarer as raw votes continue to be counted quicker-and-quicker every election cycle.
