Well, with evidence like that, safe Rand Paul.

A little more seriously, though, Tallahassee + 22% Black + the whole Obama/tea-party scene maybe leading Dixiecrat types to finally realize what party they should be in = a primary electorate that may not be all that Boyd-friendly.

Al Lawson - 34.9%
Allen Boyd - 30.7%

Obama actually did a percent or so worse in FL-02 than Kerry, so I doubt a black state senator is going to be knocking off the entrenched incumbent.

Please knock Boyd out. That would almost guarantee a R pickup... maybe...

Boyd definitely deserves to be watched in my book.  Not just in the primary, as odd as it may sound.

Actually, this district has a lot of old Dixiecrats still registered as Democrats that would likely support Boyd over a black candidate in the primary.  They may even be a majority of the Democratic primary voters here.

Good point on the Dixiecrats.

indeed, but with two caveats
-Beating back a liberal challenger in the primary will probably help Boyd show that he's not part of Barack Obama's agenda
- The primary could force Boyd to the left...didn't he vote to release the second half of the stimulus spending or something right after the challenger emerged five-ish months ago?  Boyd doesn't seem worried as he's been voting not too differently from Melancon or Childers or Minnick of late.

Lawson isn't even that much farther to the left than Boyd.

For what it's worth, the presidential "primary" here was Obama 37, Clinton 34, Edwards 24 (the second-highest in the state for Edwards).
