And said conservative would be crushed by the Democrat in the General.  Here is to hoping the CFG and conservative wingnut crowd try and take her down.

Snowe could probably pretty easily run and win re-election as an independent or a Democrat though.

True, yet this is a sign that Republicans really gone crazy and are willing to throw out any politician who's not "conservative enough", even if this mean seat loss.

Good luck, idiots.

Ugh, I hate polls involving certain individuals against unnamed "generic" candidates.  Unless you can give us an actual person to take the place of "conservative alternative", then this poll is of course meaningless.  Moreso for the fact that Snowe doesn't face re-election for another three years, and the electorate have severely short memories anyway.

"conservative alternative" seems like a loaded question

The quote from the question is "a more conservative challenger."

Yeah, finding a candidate those 59% would actually unite around seems unlikely... but still, that's a pretty large majority who would at least seriously consider it. Undecided

She is essentially an independent, flipping between either side of the aisle.  She supports health care.  Why is it necessary for her to be defeated by a Democrat?

Well I would like someone firmer on healthcare which we can get from the state, but that wasn't my point nor was it what I said.   It is unlikely the Dems will be able to knock off Snowe, but if the Republicans are stupid enough and decide to run a conservative in a Primary against her and are able to knock her off it will be a Democratic pickup.

I must say, I'm a bit surprised by these results.  I don't hate Olympia Snowe, but I do agree that she did make a stupid decision by voting for the stimulus.

Overall, that's rather weak approvals for her.  Interesting.

Hardly surprising though, as you would say.  I mean, in what context would she be viewed favorably by anyone?  Why would liberals or conservatives approve of her, based off of how she is making news in the last couple months?  However, neither of their votes are for sale in the general election context and the Maine GOP is pretty disciplined (otherwise they would have been long gone earlier).

In the end though, most of them will forget.

No, it seems like the mantel a primary challenger to Snowe wants to gain. If successful, Snowe's out unless she pulls a Specter (according to this poll, anyway).

I never thought I would see this among the Maine GOP.

Very surprising.  I was a bit surprised she didn't switch Parties after 2008, as it would have given her the Chairmanship of the Small Business Committee.

This all would make more sense for such folks if getting 40% secured electoral victory, rather than 50%.  Maybe they suffer from innumeracy.

Who would run against her?  Independent businessman #4?  The Maine Tea Party president (most likely)?
