Isn't Mary Norwood Republican or atleast centre-right-leaning by any chance?

She's running to the left of Reed on marriage equality, which is actually the only issue I've heard anything about in this race.

These results are somewhat meaningless without knowing what's in from where.  Northside vs. Southside - mainly.

No. In an ad, she claims that she is not a Republican and that she voted for Barack Obama, John Kerry, Al Gore, Bill Clinton and Ross Perot. She says that she did go to a GOP convention once but hated it. She has also endorsed gay marriage while Reed only supports civil unions.

The thing I can add is only 8/12 of the precincts are in in the race for the 6th Council District, which should be Norwood territory.  Who knows where the rest is out from, though?  That's the only one with a runoff.

The general election day (9/3) results, by Council District from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:

Atlanta - Mayor
Candidate    Votes    %
Kasim Reed    37,025    51%
Mary Norwood    35,134    49%
(93% in)

According to the AJC, The DeKalb portion of Atlanta is all in - and went barely for Norwood, 51-49.

I just saw the news, there are between 8,000 to 10,000 absentee/early votes to still be counted. Also, if the margins are within 1% of each other, there has to be a mandatory recount.

Now, the "final" count is higher (same result, though):

ATLANTA MAYOR (including DeKalb) 80539 total votes (170 precincts reporting of 170)
100.00% reporting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KASIM REED 40917 50.80%
MARY NORWOOD 39622 49.20%

Which of these two is the "good guy" in the race? I need to know who to root for in the inevitable ensuing recount chaos.

I don't know exactly. Smiley

Hmm... Still changing - perhaps counting the early votes now?

ATLANTA MAYOR (including DeKalb) 80681 total votes (170 precincts reporting of 170)
100.00% reporting

Yup.  100% reporting isn't quite 100%. Still counting:

ATLANTA MAYOR (including DeKalb) 83044 total votes (170 precincts reporting of 170)
100.00% reporting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
KASIM REED 41901 50.46%
MARY NORWOOD 41143 49.54%

Some might be suspicious as to why Fulton keeps discovering election day votes for Reed and has done so four times to keep Norwood's margin down as absentees came in.

They are counting absentee and early votes right now.  Norwood hasn't conceded and has gone home from her campaign event at The Varsity, according to the AJC.

And supposedly I have heard there are six precincts in Fulton still out for some reason.

Fulton's website doesn't show that.  What it does show is that Precinct 10A is supposedly 0% in, but the website doesn't show a precinct location.

Turnout in a few other precincts was also supposedly below 10% - 2X (GA Tech), 3U (Central United Methodist Church), 4B (Henderson Health and P E Center), 5C (Auburn Avenue Research Library), 9K&9N (Scott Elementary School)).  We'll have to see if that holds.

Fulton's done counting for the night, according to the AJC:

11:36 p.m.: Fulton County says it is done counting for tonight. There is a 758 vote difference between Reed and Norwood in the Atlanta mayor race. Provisional ballots will be counted Thursday.

The Fulton County BoE's website is very slow.  Their last numbers are:

ATLANTA MAYOR (including DeKalb) 83044 total votes (170 precincts reporting of 170)
100.00% reporting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

KASIM REED 41901 50.46%
MARY NORWOOD 41143 49.54%

Which are more final?

All websites are now reporting the Fulton County numbers as final - pending only counting of provisional ballots on Thursday.

KASIM REED 41901 50.46%
MARY NORWOOD 41143 49.54%

Reed has claimed victory; Norwood hasn't conceded - and is entitled to a recount if the margin remains within 1% as it barely is now.
