Am I correct to assume that city offices are non-partisan in Atlanta?

I read somewhere that this could be the first time in decades that Atlanta might be electing a non-African American mayor...

They are non-partisan. Although, I believe everyone running for Mayor is a Democrat, except Norwood, who's a Republican. She's actually been getting brutally attacked by Reed for being a Republican in the past few days.

Actually, I don't know about Keyser.

I saw a panel on Lou Dobbs talk about it like an hour ago. We'll see... Smiley

If I may ask, are the mayoral elections in Atlanta bi-partisan, or are there Democrats and Republicans?

Well, all elections are non-partisan. But, I believe Democrats dominate the City. Please don't feel akward to help contribute. Smiley I just thought it would be nice to let the forum see some other numbers! Smiley

Thanks Smiley
Well, I have family in Alpharetta, so I know a bit about Atlanta. The current mayor is Shirley Franklin, right?
Meh, I guess I support Norwood. None of them stand out to me, though.

It's most likely going to be a runoff between Norwood and Reed. But, the Absentee and Early Votes haven't been counted in Buckhead yet, which has been trending to Norwood. She's hoping that those votes will put her over the top.

New SurveyUSA poll for the Runoff:

Kasim Reed: 49%
Mary Norwood: 46%

Filtering and Composition: 1,000 city of Atlanta adults were interviewed 11/12/09 through 11/15/09. Of them, 890 were registered to vote. Of them, 499 were determined by SurveyUSA to be likely to vote in the runoff. In SurveyUSA's turnout model, 58% of voters are black, 38% of voters are white. If blacks turn out in larger numbers, Reed will outperform the poll numbers shown here. If whites turn out in larger numbers, Norwood will outperform the poll numbers shown here.

The Polls close at 8:00, but results will come in slow. Turnout will also probably be low, and turnout is what's going to decide who wins this election. Smiley
