I don't see a thread for this one and it's actually pretty interesting and has received some national coverage.
There are 6 candidates on the ballot and 3 frontrunners - City Council President Lisa Borders, City Councilwoman Mary Norwood, and state Senator Kasim Reed.
Norwood has been leading in the polls by a significant margin, and if elected, she'd be the city's first white mayor in 36 years. She has to get 50% to win straight up tonight though. Otherwise she'll face whichever black candidate comes in second in a runoff, likely Kasim Reed who has received the backing of much of the establishment including current mayor Shirley Franklin.
It looks like most polls have her in the high 40s so she might pull a shocker. A runoff with just one black candidate would obviously be tougher even if she is polling relatively high support from black Atlantans. Her opponents have been accusing her of being a not so secret Republican, even though she insists that's all in the past.
lol
And ads like this are already going out.
Expect some not so subtle race baiting in a runoff if it happens. Should be interesting either way.
