I'd rather give that money to somebody who will use it better, say, Satan Tongue

Nah, that money would fund lots of things I'm vehemently against.

No, it would probably fund .0001 per cent of something you're vehemently against.

Wouldn't it be more reasonable to end the privilege that made the donation feasible in the first place.

Tax people to the point that they have no expendable income?

Do you get a tax credit for making that donation? Wink

I know there are tax breaks for donating to politrickal parties...people don't usually donate directly to the gov't (that's what taxes are for). Personally I'd rather donate when there's fund-raising for essential services, but seeing as the government funds that by robbing us of our money through taxation, there's not much of a point.

If everyone were to donate money to the US government it would lower the likelihood that the US government would increase taxes, but even then it's no excuse to give money to fund programs one morally objects to Tongue

I would NOT make a donation to the US Government. My contribution is forced in the form of taxes, and if the government chooses to opt for donations, they should step up and abolish the tax system. You can't have it both ways. Either you believe contributions are voluntary, or you believe taxation is an absolute necessity for functioning governments. If the government needs this money so urgently, they should consider a tax increase and not beg us cash-strapped citizens for what little we have. The only way for this to work is to force it upon the citizenry (and also the route most often taken).

I would definitely not donate to the government, and I probably would not donate to them if they abolished all taxation either. Now that I think of it, that might be a good way to force the burden of maintaining society on libertarians Wink

Might. They recently charged me because I did some mistake on a tax return when I still lived in the US eons ago. They claimed they couldn't get in touch w/ me, as I left the US and they didn't have a current address on file, so they got the money straight out of the bank account (nearly 10 years after the fact - I guess, they neede a court judgement or smthg, I am still waiting for the writtent explanations, now that I've given them my mailing address) - sure enough that made me notice. I am now debating, if I should dig into boxes w/ ancient financial documents to file an ammended return to get the money back. Perhaps I will, perhaps I won't. Then, I do sometimes give to charities which are, probably, not much more efficient than the US gov't. So, I am rather tempted to consider it a charity gift to the gov't - perhaps, I'd get a credit for it when it's time to go upstairs.

Sorry to hear you don't believe in good will.

If there were no taxation, the government would do fund raising. Are you suggesting you wouldn't go to an event put on by the Health Department if the admission turned out to be a charitable donation to their department? I'm sorry to hear you prefer an armed robbery system over good will.

No, just end 'private property'/capitalism.
