Favorite Bible Version

I'm not going to bother with a poll because there are so many of them, and I would be bound to leave some out anyway.

While acknowledging that every translation has its flaws and that you should always check multiple ones when interpreting difficult passages, in my opinion the New American Standard Bible (NASB) is the best English language translation and the one I use regularly - bought a paper copy actually after arriving in the UK.

for casual reading I like the NIV...for depth I like the KJV or NKJV

I am one of the weird ones, I can understand the King James Version better than I can the New International Version.  I guess its all in how I was raised.  That said, I'm not much of a fan of the NIV, because it leaves out one very important verse in Acts 8:37.  I do like the NASB and that's probably my second-favorite translation

I only use the New American Bible for study, unless there is a passage in which it is useful to have multiple translations.  When I need something that sounds a little more poetic, I go with the Ignatius Version.

I am wedded to formal-equivalence translations, a category I define narrowly enough to exclude even the fashionable New International Version, on which I was raised. Far and away my favorite translation is the English Standard Version, a revision of the Revised Standard Version that improves the accuracy of the text and removes archaisms (in particular, the RSV's inconsistent use of thou/thee/etc.), while retaining the literary beauty of its "mother text."

The NASB is a more literal translation than the ESV, but its rigorous insistence on literalism comes at the considerable price of using awkward grammatical constructions that add nothing in the way of accuracy. Nonetheless, I do consult it from time to time.

The feminist "gender inclusive" translations, I do not take seriously. The paraphrases, I do not pay attention to. The King James Version, I venerate but do not use. The "KJV Only" crowd, I treat with appropriate disdain.

I just wouldn't understand someone reading it without being a Jehovah's Witness, given the controversy(I'll put it politely) surrounding the NWT.
