Inspired by this strip:

I realized that there are probably people here who don't recollect the Oklahoma city bombing, or were even born after it.

It is even possible (I would think probable) that by the 2012 elections we may have some posters who have no conscious recollection of 9/11 - it happened after they were born, but too young to remember.   (I know well, some major historical milestones passed during my early years - RFK and King assassinations, the moon landing, Watergate - of which I have no personal memory.

So how much do you remember?  I apologize for all the major events left out, but I didn't want to make the list too excessively long.

I can only remember as far back as '91, I think, but that's little memories that I can verify with my folks. I seem to remember the first WTC attack, but I don't know if that's just implanted by various sources; reading, documentaries, etc.

It still makes me doubt the last ten years even occurred, but damn, there are people alive that I can converse with who were born after 9/11. So much for linear history.

Last seven.  With September 11th I remember coming home from school one day, switching on the TV and there is was, a news report on the collapse of the WTC towers.  Of course even aged 10 I was still something of a selfish little brat, caring more only about the fact that the regular broadcasting schedule had been interrupted.

Chernobyl on up. Although I didn't vote Virginia Tech because all the name inspired was "yeah, now you mention it I have a passive recollection that there was some event of that name". I don't think I ever cared to find out details about that.

I remember confusing Gulf with the silly outdoors game Golf.

I wish I was there for the repeal of prohibition, that probably was one hell of an epic party.

I remember from the hanging chads on.

I might have a very brief recognition of Columbine, but mostly from there on.

I remember the Oklahoma City bombing onwards, though it took me a moment to recall what exactly the breakup of the Columbia was.

It wasn't big news outside the States.

What I find shocking is how many people remember 9/11, but not election 2000.

And Saudi Arabia, where nobody has anything better to do than watch the news.

Out of those, the earliest I remember was the Oklahoma City thing.
About OJ Simpson I heard some years later, and the 'hanging chads controversy' I heard about of the first time when I read this thread.
From 9/11 on I remember everything.

I guess my earliest "political" memories are about the war in Bosnia 1992/1993.
