I notice that the American idea of manifest destiny seems to be quite similar to the German idea of lebensraum. Both were based on ideas of expanding their races at the expense of the native populations. Does anyone else agree with me?

No, they have nothing to do with each other. The concept of Manifest Destiny existed unlike the concept of lebenstraum. Unless you think the Nazis spent a lot of time dreaming about their lives...

It's Lebensraum, not Lebenstraum.

Raum = space, area

Traum = dream

Although I'm sure that the Nazis also had a dream, it's pretty certain that it was quite the opposite of MLK's.

cite? Currents in German philosophy were far more important to the development of Nazi ideology, and the idea of the "Drang Nach Osten" long predates Manifest Destiny, or even the United States for that matter.

Eh...

Frederick the Great was saying that the Poles were like Iroquois and should be treated as such before the United States even existed.

Oh no, not this again.

Anyway it is not like America didn't develop it's own brand of intellectual thought to justify manifest destiny.

there are clearly parallels between the two, but to say that Lebensraum derived from Manifest Destiny specifically is a bit of a stretch.
