Oh we don't have people die all the time.  I just said for a couple months a few years ago it was just like bam bam bam, not all were homicides.

http://www.dailycal.org/article/101883/report_finds_berkeley_violent_crime_decreased_slig

There were seven homicides from January 2008 to June 2008, for example.  Shrug.

25 - Car Dependent

I can walk anywhere in town in less than 45 minutes, but it's very hilly, and the closest commercial area is about 20 min. away.

62% Walkable. Ottawa is amazing if you have a bike, if it's not the frozen half of the year (well, I can bike nine months out of twelve, and I just tolerate public transit for the other months). Half hour bike ride gets me pretty much anywhere downtown from my semi-suburban neighborhood, and if I'm biking, I'm much less vulnerable to thieves.

Wow people are talking about Elk Grove on the forum. That's a very very important location for my job.

I've been there a few times. You would hate it.

This is a political forum, not a breeding ground of psychos and spammers (though that last part is debatable).

Besides, I'm very detail oriented and I wanted to know the EXACT walkability of my address.

I've posted my address on the forum several times. I've never posted my actual apartment number, but if you made it to my building you could easily figure it out (most people here know my real name and it's on my mailbox.) No reason to worry though.

Home: Walk Score: 49 out of 100 —  Car-Dependent

But a lot of things are accessible on a short bus ride (aka, school) though downtown is quite far but I have little interest going in Ottawa-Centre except to go to Carleton U's Library and the like. And I don't want to go to Orleans.

School at 2381 Ogilvie Road N, Ottawa, ON: Walk Score: 45 out of 100 —  Car-Dependent

Affluent old suburban area.

My aunt's house in Laval, QC gets a 57.

COOL!

Seriously? LOL@Texas.

My place seems pretty NewJerseytastic to me, having grown up in a very urban area (my parents in Toronto get 97), but I still manage 46.

As others have mentioned this calculator really ought to take safety into consideration. You may have plenty of shops nearby, but if you're taking your life in your hands by walking, I wouldn't consider that walkable.  I also wouldn't consider a Circle K a grocery store. I got a 42/Car dependant, which seems pretty fair. I have a great neighborhood for going for a walk. All the streets have sidewalks, the neighborhood is safe with lots of trees and very little traffic. I have a great park about a block a way. Just nowhere important to walk to.

maybe you should be laughing at yourself for assuming every neighborhood in Texas is as secluded as mine

My walk score is 37. But they don't seem to be taking into account bus service.

I hate that site.  I really do.  And now the Zillow and a other realty sites now tap into it really ticks me off.  The only areas that are really favored are large cities or dense commercial areas in suburbs.  There is no love for those who choose to live the rural or exurbian life.  Of course those area's aren't "walkable."  The whole point of getting away from people is to litterally put as much distance away from the headaches and traffic of the busier parts of town.  Give me a community with a low "walkable" score any day of the week.

It doesn't suggest that walkable areas are inherently preferable, simply that it's easier to get places on foot.

It's that high where you live? Holy smokes! Must be because of Elmvale...
