Sen. Kerry announced on MSNBC they he and Barbara Boxer were withdrawing their bill from Senate committee consideration. Kerry was vague about specifics--he seemed really pissed off--but he made references to "the new political reality" and called the President "damaged goods." Mitch McConnell said that the House bill is DOA in the Senate. Jeff Bingaman only said "something's rotten in the state of Denmark."

Uh oh, Valerie Jarrett is coming to the podium. Her family's behind her and I think that's David Gergen to her left. Is she stepping down?

The Senate is a disgusting anti-democratic body.

"Change" dies a little more with each passing hour.

Oh crap. "I've got some bridges to rebuild in Chicago. My work is at home." Gergen stepping in to clean up. West Wing "in disarray."

Yeah, I see what you did there.

Do you really think Kerry would call Obama "damaged goods"?

If that's true, then that's a victory for the good guys (being the US Economy and US Taxpayers).  There are so many more reasonable and viable approaches to transitioning the economy into a more "green" version without taxing companies and consumers to death.

Jeff Bingaman only said "something's rotten in the state of Denmark."

Heaven will direct it.

Again with the strawman.
I'm sorry if I have a problem sending millions of people into poverty just to save a few fucking trees.

Ok, I have to facepalm here because environmentally friendly legislation does not equal impoverishing loads of people.  Seriously, where did you get that ridiculous notion from?

If only I had a big stick on me...

Dude, in these economic times it would be stupid to go ahead with a plan like this. Wait until we are booming before pulling this. People are sacrificing enough as it is.
I'm for some environmentally friendly legislation, just not the kind that punishes people. If this bill was about funding alternate research or ending fuel subsidies, I would likely favor it. But it is about punishing people who might not have the money to use a fuel source many are reliant on right now. Also cap and trade leaves government waste unaccounted for since they control it.

Ok, at this point I'll admit I'm unfamiliar with the legislation in question, but what about it in particular do you object to?

Just the whole mindset of it: to punish those who use fuel sources deemed "harmful". Pretty much people would have to pay the government extra to use certain fuel sources yet the government (who does the most polluting) gets off scot free! I wouldn't usually make a big deal about this but WE'RE STILL KIND OF IN A CRAPPY ECONOMY AND THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT THE RIGHT TIME TO START TALKING ABOUT A PLAN LIKE THIS.
I mean people are sacrificing as it is.
