Democrats made a net gained 2 US House Seats in 2000. 212 Seats.
2001- Democrats lost 2 seats VA-4 (OPEN-Norm Sisisky-D)-Randy Forbes-R, and VA-5(Virgil Goode)-switched parties.  210 seats.

Redistricting in 2002 and 2004 is the reason why Republicans were able to pick up seats in the US House.
States that lost seats in Redistricting.
1)Connecticut- Jim Maloney (D/CT-5) and Nancy Johnson (R/CT-6) were place in the same district. CT-5- a Democratic leaning Swing District. Johnson-R defeated Maloney-D in the general election matchup. -1D
2)Illinios- David Phelps (D/IL-19) and John Schimkus-(R/IL-20)-were placed in same district- IL-19- Republican leaning District in Southern IL. Shimkus-R defeated Phelps-D in general election matchup. -2D
3)Indiana- Brian Kerns (R/IN-7) and Steve Buyer (R/IN-5) were placed in the same district- Buyer-R defeated Kerns-R in GOP primary. Too offset Kerns-R loss, Republicans picked up IN-3(OPEN-Tim Roemer-D)-Chris Chocola-R. -3D
4)Michigan- Lynn Rivers(D/MI-13) seat was eliminated- forced to run against John Dingell(D/MI-16)in new MI-15- Rivers-D lost.  Republicans created MI-11 in place of the old MI-13 for Thad McCotter-R. +1R/-1D.  Jim Barcia (D/MI-5) and David Bonior (D/MI-10)-were placed in same district- MI-10- Thumb District- Barcia's home was placed in new MI-5 (Dale Kildee-D)- and David Bonior's home was placed in MI-12(Sander Levin-D)- Barcia-D and Bonior-D retired- Candace Miller-D won MI-10. +1R/-2D

A neutral redistricting in MI- would have saved Rivers.(MI-13)- Bonior/Barcia district would have been combined. - Thumb district- help. Candace Miller-R. -6D +2R (-5D/+1R)
5)Mississippi- Ronnie Shows-(D/MS-4) and Chip Pickering (R-MS-3)- was placed in same district- MS-3- Republican District- Pickering-R defeated Shows-D. - 7D +2R (-6D/+1R)
6)New York- Ben Gilman (R/NY-20) and Sue Kelly (R/NY-19) were placed in same district- Gilman-R retired. John LaFalce(D/NY-29) and Louise Slaughter(D/NY-28) were placed in same district.  -8D +1R (-7D)
7)Ohio- Republicans picked up OH-3(OPEN-Tony Hall-D)- Mike Turner-D. -9D +2R (-8D +1D) and Tom Sawyer (OH-14) seat was eliminated. Sawyer lost in a primary in the new OH-17(OPEN-Traficant-D). -10D +2R (-9D +1R).
8)Oklahoma- OK-3 (Wes Watkins-R) seat eliminated. -10D +1R (-9D)
9)Pennsylvania- George Gekas (R/PA-17) and Tim Holden (D/PA-6) were placed in same PA-17 District- Gekas lost to Holden. Gekas-R loss ofsets- Republicans winning the new PA-6 based in District-Philidelphia Suburbs- (Jim Gerlach)- PA-6 will go Democratic in the near future.

PA redistricting- Borski(D/PA-3) and Hoefell(D/PA13) were placed in same district -Borski retired. Bill Coyne (D/PA-14) and Mike Doyle (D/PA-18) were placed in same district- Coyne retired. Frank Mascara(D/PA-20) decided to run against Murtha(D/PA12) in the primary instead of PA-18- which went to Tim Murphy (R). -13D +2R (-11D )
10)Wisconsin- (Tom Barrett-D/WI-5) seat was eliminated. -14D +2R (-12D).

Looking at states that were gaining seats in redistricting.
Arizona- (+2)- AZ-1 was a swing district- narrowly won by Rick Renzi-R. Democrats won AZ-1 in 2008 (Ann Kirkpatrick-D). AZ-7 was a safe Democratic Hispanic majority district. (Raul Grijalva-D).  -13D +3D (-11D/+1D)
California (+1)- the new CA-21 was a Republican leaning district- Devin Nunes-R was offsetted with CA-39(OPEN-Steve Horn-R)- becoming a Hispanic Democratic majority district -Linda Sanchez-D.  -12D +3D (-10D/+1D)

Colorado- (+1)- CO-7 was a Democratic leaning swing district won by Bob Beauprez-R. Democrats won CO-7 in 2006. -12D +4R (-10D/+2R)
Florida- (+2)- Republicans gerrymandered FL-5(Karen Thurman-D)-to be more Republican- Thurman lost to Virginia Brown Waite.  FL-24 and FL-25 were Republican Districts created for Tom Feeney and Mario Diaz Balart.  -13D +7R  (-10D /+4R)
Georgia (+2)- GA-13 was a safe Black Democratic District.- won by David Scott-D. GA-12 was suppose to be a Democratic District- but Republican Max Burns won that district due to controversial Democratic nominee.  Bob Barr (GA-7) loss offsets Phil Gingrey(R) win in new GA-11. Democrats gerrymandered GA-8(Saxby Chambliss-R)-to be more Democratic- Jim Marshall.

Nevada- NV-3 swing district- won by Jon Porter-R. Democrats won NV-3 in 2008- (Dina Titus-D)
-11D +8R (-9D/+6R)

Texas- TX-5 (Jeb Hensarling) and TX-31(John Carter)- were Republican leaning Districts. -10D +10R. (-8D/+8R).

MD-2(OPEN-Erlich-R)-won by Dutch Ruppersberger-D.
MD-8 (Connie Morella-R)- lost to Chris Van Hollen-D
TN-4 (OPEN-Hilleary-R) won by Lincoln Davis-D
-6D +6R
  Democrats lost MN-2. -7D +7R  (203D) seats.

2004- (Texas Redistricting)- led to Ralph Hall(TX-4) switching parties.
Sandlin(TX-1)-lost in the general election to Louie Gohmert-R
Jim Turner-(TX-2) eliminated. The new TX-10 (Mike McCaul-R) was created.
Nick Lampson(TX-9) lost in the new TX-2 against Ted Poe-R
Charlie Stenholm (TX-17) lost to TX-19 (Randy Neugabaur-R)- The new TX-11(Michael Conway-R) was created.
Martin Frost(TX-24) lost to TX-32(Pete Sessions-R)- The new TX-24 (Kenny Marchant-R) was created.  -6D +6R in Texas. Without TX- Delaymandering- -1D +1R

Other seats we gained and loss in 2004.
KY-4(OPEN-Lucas-D) and KY-6 (OPEN-Fletcher-R)- cancel each other out-. Geoff Davis-R won KY-4 and Ben Chandler-D won KY-6.
LA-3 (OPEN-Tauzin-R) and LA-7(OPEN-John-D)- cancel each other out. Charlie Melancon-D won LA-3 and Charles Boustany-R won LA-7.

GA-12(Max Burns-R)-lost to John Barrow-D.
IL-8 (Phil Crane-R) lost to Melissa Bean-D
NY-27 (OPEN-Jack Quinn-R)- Brian Higgins-D
SD-AL (OPEN-Bill Janklow-R)- Stephanie Herseth-D
= Democrats would have gained 2 seats without redistricting. -2D +2R We ended up with 203 seats.

In 2006- we picked up 30 seats.
plus 3 seats in Special Election. (IL-14,LA-6,and MS-1)
In 2008- we lost  5 Democratic Incumbents-
1)FL-16(Tim Mahoney-D)-lost to Tim Rooney-R
2)KS-2(Nancy Boyda-D)-lost to Lynn Jenkins-R
3)LA-2 (Bill Jefferson-D)-lost to Ahn Cao-R
4)LA-6 (Don Cazayoux-D)-lost to Bill Cassidy-R
5)TX-22 (Nick Lampson-D)-lost to Pete Olson-R
but picked up 27 Republican held seats.

We have the same number of seats in the US House- we had pre 1994. 257 seats.

In 2010- Democrats will pick up LA-2 which will cancel out a loss in LA-3. DE-AL assuming Castle retires, IL-10,and PA-6. +3D
Losses include. AL-2,AL-5,FL-8,ID-1,MD-1,MI-7,MS-1,NJ-3,NM-2,NY-20,NY-24,NY-29,OH-1,OH-15,and VA-5. -15 seats.
