[watch the 2nd message before voting]

I just heard on the radio that in Bhutan tourists had to pay a tax of 220$ per day.

Does it inspire any comment?

Voted negative.

Well, should have looked forward before posting the first time. When we look forward we can find places in where they give some precisions about this tax, it's not so simple, that's like that:

So, it's an only tax everyone pays when he is a tourist in the country, I should have paid attention to the guy on the radio, he had a hacking trend about ecology. It's a kind of global minimum pass submitted to several conditions. So I change my negative into positive.

Especially if that girl with you (the one on the car) wants to keep her toy with her. Grin. You would surely have problems.

If it makes the tourists relish every second they're allowed to travel in the country, all power to them.

Minimum selling prices aren't taxes. You're not paying on top of your daily fees; you're just paying higher daily fees. (So, without the minimum selling price, you might pay $75 instead of $200 for a nice hotel, which is still a steep upgrade but much less than a $200 tax would be.) Since $200/night isn't all that expensive for a nice hotel in a developed country, it really just makes the trip not dirt-cheap.

Since Bhutan is only really competing with Nepal, Burma and Tibet for tourists, and Nepal, Burma and Tibet have serious problems right now, it's not going to hurt their tourist industry. And it's probably good to make people from developed countries pay in order to help develop the countries they're visiting.

Suprised they've not tried this in Venice. Or Cornwall. Or anywhere else that hates tourists but needs their ££££.
