It's a wet dream of mine, obviously, but could be an interesting scenario even if relatively unplausible.

Let's assume that way back in the days of the Revolution, the pro-decentralization and 'federalist' opinion had won out over the ultra-centralist/Parisian opinion. France would have evolved since then as a de-centralized state, to some extent, meaning that today's France would be politically, sociologically and culturally/linguistically different from the one we know.

What do you think this France today would look like? How do you see regional cultures and languages surviving? And so on and so forth, go from there.

Sorry, but I have to say that having a Federal State for a country like France makes no sense in my opinion. It could have one in USA, but France doesn't need this sort of things.

This isn't an overnight thing. It's more, in a way, of an alternate history question whose POD happens to be during the French Revolution, with the Girondins eventually winning over the Jacobins.

So, yeah, please don't bring the damn whole debate about how federalism sucks and how 'reality' is this and that. That goes for anybody.

Ok, ok... Could I just add that I think the fact that a centralist position prevailed at this time was a good thing, even if there were obviously some abuses ? Smiley
Will try to give my opinion of the right topic later. Wink
