But so too do the Tories...

Holyrood Constituency:
CON 16%(nc): LAB 28%(+1): LD 14%(-2): SNP 36%(+2)
Holyrood Regional:
CON 17%(+1): LAB 26%(nc): LD 12%(-4): SNP 30%(nc)

Changes in this YouGov poll are compared with a poll last week.

In Holyood this would translate (using the current, soon to be superceded constituencies) to

SNP 46 (-1)
LAB 40 (-6)
CON 24 (+7)
LIB 16 (-)
GRE 2 (-)
OTH 1 (-)

Still awaiting an 'others' breakdown

Well they would still be a minority; but they would have a bigger majority over Labour. Take into account boundary changes I would probably increase the SNP majority over Labour by about 2.

I was hoping Lockerbie would kick them out of power.

The Tories should therefore do all they can to get early elections as it isn't as though an election a year into a Tory government at Westminster is likely to be kind to them.

I doubt they will try to; if the SNP administration falls it could let Labour and 'Iain Who' in through the back door if they can form a minority government. There would have to be an interesting political waltz for 30 days after the SNP government collapsed to ensure fresh elections were held. There could be benefit for the SNP in that gamble; it is likely they would be propelled back into government. While I'm sure Alex and Bella could come to an interesting agreement for mutual benefit, I'm not so confident it would work out as planned.

The best bet for the Tories is to hold out to 2011. They would only be one year into a Tory government and a year into an expected economic recovery. I don't anticipate the wheels will have fallen off the Tory government to see them go backwards at Holyrood

I fail to see how it didn't. Oil deals, blah blah blah of course, but it wasn't exactly Labour who let the guy go, it was the SNP government.

Have you been hiding under a rock for the past two weeks? The SNP may have let him go, but the possible reasons why seem to be resting with London.

Nah, he should already have been dead. Preferably due to a gunshot to the head.
