The GTO should include countries of major relevance on the world stage, and countries that are close partners of Atlasian.

How does Israel not fit that description?

There are other factors that make its inclusion a hilariously bad idea.

Supported in principle....and I also favor including the entire EU.

Seems more like a NATO replacement to me.

Well True Democrat actually wanted it to replace the UN eventually, at least that's what he told me. So maybe we snuck this by you back in the day.

Ok, so here's my amendment then to include countries, hopefully accepted as final with no other countries added that will make everyone happy: The following countries are added to the bill: South Korea, Norway, the member nations of the EU, Israel and Chile.

Instead of nation of the EU make it member nations of the EU, considering it is a economic rather than political and military union.

WTF? Israel?  Are you people kidding me?  That's a great way to make more friends and I'm sure 4/5ths of nations will approve

Modified on Happy's request. And no one should hardly find it a surprise that I support Israel. And well even if you don't support Israel that much they are a major player and it would at least be interesting to see if 4/5ths of the nations would approve.

Inserting Israel is a sure way to make the whole thing fall apart.

This is nice and all but can someone explain to me why we have a GTO in the first place? To appease people who pick on the United Nations so we can play "favorite country" in our own little tree house club?

Having read through the Wiki article(s) on this and the previous Senate debate threads from a few years ago, I will vote nay this legislation once it's up for a vote (regardless of what happens here) on the grounds that I'm opposed to the very organization's existence and our participation in it in the first place.

That's nice but don't give yourself too much credit.

After all I set the agenda regarding this thing, not TD, but if he wants to organize some sentiment to remove Atlasian membership from the United Nations, I'm sure he's more than welcome to try.

After the GM's news release on this issue, perhaps the language of this bill should be changed to be less unilateral?

I agree with the President.
My questions: What is the real purpose of this? Would this bill improve our reputation with a few nations, or just make it even worse with others?

I would like to know the proposed nations interest in joining this organization before voting on this.

Since Hashemite doesn't seem like getting invloved with the amendment I introduced I'll do something different later. I'll open up a vote but have everyone cast a seperate vote on each different country.

What gives you the power to do that?  No such vote has been proposed.  I object.

Ok, fine. I withdraw the one big amendment that I introduced before and re-introduce it as each country seperatly. 24 hours from now I'll open up the vote I described early. Thanks for wasting our time again like when you were too stubborn to withdraw the cloture vote on the healthcare bill so I could open the final vote right away. -_-

I do, I just get annoyed when uncontroversial things delay votes. Proper procedure would have been followed if you would have withdrew your cloture vote, and it would have sped up the vote.

And this was my amendment, I don't think anyone would care that I broke it up that way, it's not like I would do it with someone else's.

I didn't withdraw the cloture motion because it took you three days to address the damn thing.  You were the one slowing things down, not me.

I gotta get to work.

Everybody calm the hell down. I won't accept the amendment as friendly not because I disagree with it but because I feel Senators should be allowed to vote for or against the inclusion of certain nations.

And I'm working on trying to make the language "less assertive" and "less unilateral", but it's quite hard unless you turn this bill into hold-hands-and-make-love stuff.

The internet was out at my apartment. I asked if there would have been any amendments and then I would have opened it up early the next morning when I had access. You called the cloture vote and wouldn't withdraw it. So that took time. That took time which was not my fault since I had no internet while you did. I did what I could and you wouldn't work with me. I can't help that when circumstances were out of my control. But whatever that was in the past and you won't believe me.
