You suprised me. Can a man who destroyed the Second Republic, send an idiot Maximilian to Mexico and fought against Juarez and get his ass whipped by Prussians be considered FF?

Politics would be alot more entertaining today if people like Louis-Napeleon entered it more often.

Note I said "entertaining" not "saner" or "better".

He allowed the big bourgeoisie to reach a great prosperity.
He allowed an economic and technical modernization of France.

But he didn't balance that with a strong social and moral modernization, paving the way for an unbalanced society: weak unions, strong familial and narrow-minded capitalists; strong divisions and fightings between Republicans and oppositions to the Republic.

And by his bad politics and his total failures outside, he eventually wasted all the good aspects of his reign.

But, of course, he is a fascinating and very important guy in French history.
