Mmmm.... I should think a bit before answering (20s and 30s aren't simple !), but, to be honest, I think I would have voted something like that, with many strategic mistakes and without hindsight of course, as 1932 should be thought through the eyes of that time:

1919, 1920: Z

1924 (May, Dec) and 1928: DVP
(or Z, if DVP would have appeared too "industrial", not enough Stresemannian and too much on the right for me at that time, difficult to say)

1930: Z

1932 (July, Nov), 1933 (Mar): DDP, principled vote
(or SPD, tactical vote: it depends on my foreseeing NSDAP rise at that time)

1933 (Nov): invalid

1949 to 1965: CDU

1969: FDP (no to Kiesinger !)

1972 to 1998: CDU

2002: FDP
(or CDU, as I'm not sure of the exact proposals of FDP at that time...)

2005: CDU
(or FDP if I had been -mistakenly- convinced of a good CDU result)

2009: CDU
(or FDP if CDU doesn't fall too much in opinion polls)

SPD before 2005, then Greens or Die Linke as a protest vote.

1919: DDP
1920: DDP
1924 (May): DDP
1924 (Dec): DDP
1928: DDP
1930: Zentrum (I didn't like the DDP's re-incarnation as the DStP and merging with nats)
1932 (Jul): SPD
1932 (Nov): SPD
1933 (Mar): SPD
1933 (Nov): Flee
1949: CDU or FDP
1953: CDU or FDP
1957: CDU or FDP
1961: CDU
1965: SPD
1969: SPD
1972: SPD
1976: SPD
1980: SPD
1983: FDP
1987: Green
1990: FDP
1994: FDP
1998: Green
2002: Green
2006: FDP or Green or CDU
2009: Green or FDP or CDU

President:

1925: Willy Hellpach and Wilhelm Marx in runoff
1932: Could Ernst Thälmann be the least bad???!!!

For the President i would vote:

1925 Otto Braun, runoff Wilhelm Marx

1932 Ernst Thälmann, runoff Ernst Thälmann (maybe i vote tactical, for Hindenburg against Hitler) In this election was one candidate worse like the other Sad

@ Hash

You would very unique in Germany. In the Weimar Republic there gives nearly no swing voter between DDP and Zentrum. The most of the DDP-voters in the early years 19-28 voted 30-33 NSDAP.
Also gives not many FDP-Green swing voters.

@ fab

i don't think that you 2002 vote for the FDP. In this year was the fun-campaign (Guidomobil) of Guido Westerwelle and the antisemitic campaign of Jürgen W. Möllemann.

You're right: I would have "safely" voted CDU...
I've remembered vaguely there was a problem, but didn't know exactly what it was...

So, 2002 CDU !

And I may have voted more for DDP in the 1920s, but, as I've said, I must be honest: in that time, everyone was "intoxicated" at least a bit. And paramilitaries associations weren't only on the far-right... A weird time. So I may have voted for Z, even the "bad" one, and for DVP, just because of Stresemann.

Really, I should think more about it...
This topic is a very good idea, BTW.

After all things you write here i think the DDP is to left for you. You are a DVP-voter when you live in a protestant region or a Zentrum-Voter in a Catholic region. What you vote in the end of Weimar i don't know. Maybe you are so scared about the communists, that you vote DNVP or worse Wink Maybe you are against both extremists, then you can only vote SPD (in the catholic part of Germany maybe Zentrum)

Realistically, SPD in every election, except for maybe two USPD votes, and a Green/PDS vote here and there. Also, in the first round in 1932, I would vote for Thälmann in the first round (but Hindenburg in the second).

The most of the DDP-voters in the early years 19-28 voted 30-33 NSDAP.

Except for the Jews, of course. Did they vote SPD?

You're right, I stick to my first post for the 1920s and for 1930.

But for 1932-33, well, Z wasn't entirely "clear"... SPD had already failed... DNVP was too close to the evil. And, NO, of course, I would not have voted for NSDAP: antisemitism, vulgarity, violence. No, even with all the propaganda, and whatever some forumers could think Cheesy.
No, the problem would have been: which vote would have been more efficient to stop Hitler, apart from the KPD one.

You're right again, depending on my region, my religion, my social origins, I would have eventually voted Z or SPD, with big despair.
Or I would have already flown away...

It's really interesting to try to put oneself really in situation, without just being behind our keyboard, writing stupid or clever partisan things.
Thanks for this topic.

USPD in the first two elections, and then SPD until the 80s, and the Green until present.

Yes, the majority of the Jews voted in the end SPD, but some stay at the DDP (in the 30ies Deutsche Staatspartei) and many vote the KPD (but this were more disappointed SPD-Voters)

Why do you want to vote for the SPD politician Otto Braun. Gives no man from the Zentrum you more prefer and when the politicians are so bad, why will you vote for them in the election for the Reichstag?
