This kind of stuff angers me. When people are too modest to the point where they try to convince everyone they are less important than they really are. Own your position. Don't be arrogant about it, but be what you are.

Not to the point where they become pathetic.

A lot of times, it's not really that the person in question believes they're less important than they are, but they act that way because they want to hear it repeated over and over again how important they are.

Acting unimportant can be a way of "fishing for compliments".

Yes, that's another problem I have with this. I also think iit can be really egotistical to stress how modest you are. That's why while I believe that I'm modest, I try not to say it. That's for others to think/say.

I know that.  it is virtually impossible for one to think he is less important than he, in reality, actually is.  few people have understand their own meaninglessness relative to the totality of the universe - and, given a potentially infinite multiverse, one man's importance could most adequately be described as 'zero'.

People tend to view their importance not in relation to th totality of the universe but in relation to other individuals. Than it is obviously possible to think of oneself as less important than one actually is. And my answer would generally be yes. As long as they don't try to compensate for it with annoying behaviour. This is one of things that we all should do in moderation, but nobody should in excess.  As has been mentioned it can lead to some annoying behaviour or worse, suicide.
