I was surprised that McCain was winning until I gave it a little more thought: McCain's hawkishness versus Lieberman stood out as a way he was worse, but McCain was pretty much towing his party's line for most of his life while Lieberman was usually at odds with the party's mainstream.

So, looking at it from that perspective, maybe McCain is less bad.

Just like asking R who do they prefer between Sinema and Murkowski. Murk is to the right of Sinema, but I bet the vast majority of R would prefer her.

The poll results only has sense considering the political leans of both CT and AZ in the 90s and 2000s.

Lieberman is the singular reason we don't have universal healthcare in America today, while McCain blocked Trump from destroying whatever vestige of protection Americans did have. McCain also authored a vital campaign finance law that is now gone thanks to far-right SCOTUS - I don't know of a single Republican who would back something similar in good faith today.

Same here.

Generally seems like partisans tend to prefer politicians of the other side who occasionally work with them rather than defectors within their own ranks. Personally I also prefer Romney over Sinema.

For some reason, I think if the 2017 healthcare vote hinged on Lieberman, he would've voted with Trump.

For repeal? I'm not sure.

Still prefer McCain. Obviously it's pure irony the mab Obama initially defeated was the one who saved the signature accomplishment of his presidency.

McCain was also better on campaign finance reform.
