Don't debate the situation w/ me--it's 100% hypothetical, but I say Yes/Yes.

EDIT: My bad on the 2008-- I meant 2010, but w/ all that I've been doing for Hagel lately, I accidentally typed 08.

Why on Earth would he win in a presidential year, when he got creamed by fourteen points after spending tens of millions of dollars in 2006?

Michigan doesn't want a rich union-busting creationist puke as Governor, sorry.

Michigan doesn't have a Governor's race until 2010.

Assuming he runs against Granholm in a rematch, I'd expect the same result. He was a horrible candidate.

I honestly don't know.

Just how rich is the guy? Would he mind spending another $40 million of his own money just to lose again? I remember hearing one time that he is a billionaire. If that's true, I guess there's a good chance he would run again since that kind of money is pocket change to him.

But he would undoubtedly lose again.

He is a Billionare, I belive he is worth 3-4 billion dollars with all his assets and such. He would be destroyed as he has in 06. He wont even get the republican nod, that goes to Candice Miller.

No. If the Michigan economy is bad in 2010, the Republicans certainly will have a chance to take the governorship, but it won't be with Dick DeVos.

No.  DeVos is the worst candidate the Republicans could have put up in a state like Michigan.  The only thing he had going for him was money.

He's actually on the Forbes 400 list, and is the 2nd wealthiest guy in the state (behind Bill Davidson, who owns the Pistons).

Miller is the GOP's strongest candidate, but she wouldn't beat Granholm unless 1. the economy gets far worse between now and then (unlikely), or 2. it is a GOP wave year.

Miller's been out of politics too long to make a '10 run.

She's a member of Congress. I don't think that qualifies as "out of politics".

Out of statewide office, yes.

What do you think are the chances of Democrats taking the Michigan State Senate in 2008 or 2010 and being in control of Congressional redistricting next time around?

Well, the state Senate isn't up until 2010, but we are only one seat short, so it's possible a seat could come open and we could take it before then. I think we have a decent shot, we haven't held the Senate since 1984, but we are very close now.

Even just a fair redistricting would give the Dems a 2-3 seat gain, a gerrymander could probably net 4 or 5. Detroit is over 80 percent black, and it'd be easy to split it up into several districts, though I suppose the CBC would insist we keep at least two majority black.

The Dollar Bill Jefferson deal has wiped out what little bit of respect I had left for the CBC.

True, but unfortunately one's base must be kept happy....they aren't as bad as the GOP base by a mile.

Wouldn't Democrats have to pick up at least 2 seats to gain control of the State Senate? If I am not mistaken Republicans control the chamber by a 21-17 margin. Therefore they would have to pick up 2 seats for a 19-19 tie and I assume the Lt. Gov. would break that tie in favor of the Democrats.

She is in the United States House of Representatives since 2002. Before that she was Sec of State.

The Lt. Gov does break ties. Wikipedia shows 21-17, so thus it would seem you are correct. I remember it being said it was 20-18 by the Detroit Free Press the day after the election, so maybe a close seat flipped to the GOP.

It's definitely doable in 2010 either way to get a 2 seat gain.
