Question: Usually shows goes into off topic board but since this show is about politics fittingly it would be appropriate to put it in the individual politics board.

This show was on netflix from 2015 to 2020 and then moved to HBO max since the show is owned by Warner Bros.

Freedom show because it's funny and wholesome, but I hate their presidential maps - any political junkie would find the 2006 results completely infuriating - and they have a very naive and idealistic version of America. Politics was very polarized and partisan even in the 2000s, and West Wing shows an America that's less polarized than it ever was in reality (with the possible exception of the Era of Good Feelings). I also hate how their 'presidential elections' are held in 2002, 2006, etcetra, instead of 2004, 2008, etcetra, like it should be (I think it's because the season featuring the 2002 election came out then and the season featuring the 2006 election). With having said all that, very interestingly, their 2006 election shares a lot of parallels with the real life 2008 election (in fact, Democratic candidate Santos was apparently based on then-senator Barack Obama!).

Freedom Show, and very enjoyable, but taken as Gospel without good reason.

Just wondering only. And yes you watched it before HBO max even came out.

It epitomizes the late-90s bullsh[Inks] optimism, what Fukuyama called “the end of history.” That came to a halt when 9/11 happened. Never seen it, but I don’t think that I’d be able to watch it. The only fictional political series that I’ve liked was Veep. Dropped House of Cards after less than a season because (at the time) it seemed too absurd.

Brilliant soul food, not just because of the characters, but because of the intelligent writing that allowed a sense of hope & overall idealism to permeate through every episode & play to an admittedly idealistic notion of what our government should be like by promoting intellectualism & the notion that intelligent people should be in charge & that things could, if not would be so much better if we just allowed like-minded, smart, idealistic sets of people to run the country. Also, the fact that it broadly educated many people on the inner-workings of our government was a godsend, to the point that the actors on the show themselves have talked many times about how they've been told by many political staffers of today that they'd wanted to get into government & politics precisely because they'd watched TWW. Imagine being such a potentially positive influence for the next generations like that? Also also, I'd honestly give anything for real-life Vinick Republicans.

Love the first four seasons. Disappointing it's not available to stream in Canada to my knowledge.
