This is a quote from rightists, leftists and centrists alike. I said something like that 5 years ago here and got in trouble. I have heard it from Black Lives Matter activists and right wing blogs alike.

Give these people what they want. I, for one, wouldn’t even remain a police officer; but if they did, then refuse to patrol black areas. They already hate you, right? Apparently you’re systematically killing young black men who are only guilty of breathing while black. frick it, don’t service those areas.

I hope cops get tired of being these pandering politicians’ punching bags. Have some respect for yourselves. They want you gone, so frick it and quit. They hate you, so let them police themselves. I don’t get it. Why even remain an officer?

It's going to reach a point in certain cities/counties where racial tensions are the highest, that when a black person gets pulled over department policy will be to radio for a black officer to take over. Obviously if a call comes in and the person of interest is black, then dispatch will roll a black officer to scene automatically.

Would you really want a police officer with this attitude patrolling your neighborhood?

If you only want a job for the prestige or the respect it gets you, because you have no intention of using that job to improve or protect the well-being of others, then the job is not right for you. I apply this standard to politicians as much as I do police officers, whom unlike politicians are not held directly accountable by the people they take their oath to serve.

No, but I would not want to aggravate them that they take their anger out and cause more damage to their reputations already.....a lot of cops see no point anymore patrolling areas where they are disliked.....what does it do to change the real issues of police reform....a lot of cops don't want to patrol areas where they are despised....it damages morale......there needs to be conversation on both sides.....

Or, alternatively, cops could keep their anger under control and clean up their departments, one by one. In fact, your own state seems to be getting progressively better at changing interactions between cops and civilians by hiring better people and implementing better protocols. Mr. Reactionary, whom I speak with often, said that his hometown used to have a big problem with the local PD until the cops became more civically engaged, and as a result he's much less 'police-critical' than he once was, or I currently am given my own family's experience with the police in my area.

It is impossible to "both sides" this one; wherever there is a built-in power imbalance, it is incumbent upon those at the top to set the terms for how they interact with the people they serve or oversee. Abuse of power is no better than refusal to do the job at all. The police need to be the adults in the room, ignore the fringe activists who want to abolish all police, and follow new guidelines. Refusing to serve an area that is majority-black is not less racist than over-policing an area because it is majority-black.
