As people get very long prison terms for violent acts, property destruction, and compromises of national security such is going to look like a very bad idea in the event of even a narrow Biden or Harris win in 2024.

We have rules in place to define who wins the election even if we have some disputes about foreign interference or local hanky-panky. If there was anything to be learned from the 2000 election, it was that one should never expect an honest count of the vote in a state decided narrowly when the Governor is the brother of your opponent.

I expect the Trump Presidency to look worse as time passes, and demographics (young voters are going to be about D+20 while voters over 55 are about R+5 and die off by about 1.6% every year) will make things harder for Republicans every year.

I agree. Worst case scenario would be armed street battles around the capitol if they decide to go all in, but security should hopefully take the threat seriously and prevent them from entering the building.

No, the people that bankrolled and organized the coup attempt know that doing so again under Joe Biden would be most likely unsuccessful and have more pushback in prosecution of the middle men. What I truly believe will occur is that once a Republican is elected in either 2024 or 2028, they will then plan for another attempt in four years from then.

Of course, in the meantime I think they make an effort to court either ICE agents, national guard units nearby, or the right amount of conventional battalions to succeed.

Probably not in Biden’s case, but harsh sentences for low-level players, extra fences and a few more unsympathetic cops can only do so much. It’s likely that DC will one day be held in worse disrepute than it was on January 6, and that implies a march on the Capitol will be attempted at some point.

No, only because security will undoubtedly be more prevalent. They were supposedly supposed to have tried again on March 4 bu nothing happened. Though Trump wasn't there and that was evidently the biggest reason why the January 6 insurrection was able to happen at all.

The January 6 siege was a perfect storm that may never happen again, thankfully, especially with the benefit of hindsight.

Possibly, but I would say it's very unlikely to get very far next time, and like we saw post-9/11, we're going to see a much stronger beefing-up of security in general as well as more frequent internet monitoring.

That's one of the things those short-sighted, deluded hooligans didn't think about: that the government, if anything, is only going to want to spy on their online communities more in order to thwart any future threats. Also as a result, social networking sites will be more heavily moderated and you can bet that sites like 8chan will always have a handful of glowies keeping a close eye on them.

I don't think 1/6 will be as historically significant as 9/11, which started the War on Terror, or Pearl Harbor, which started American involvement in WW2, not that the events that occurred on 1/6 should be understated.

"The cabal" now has total control according to the QAnon movement, so why storm the capitol again?
