Well, JFRAUD, that little snippet says nothing about small flags.

Why don't you read the part that you DIDN'T bother to highlight. I'll mark it out for your illiterate self.

OK, so burning a flag is a dignified way to dispose of it. Do you have a point?

Thats a good question for you, what point are you trying to make by continually posting that? Are you saying that protestors that burn the flag are doing so in a dignified way? Do you even know what ceremony is preformed when a flag is preformed? Have you ever seen the ceremony yourself?

The fact that there actually is a ceremony is evidence to my claim that it is idoltary.

Jfern is basing his argument off of a false premise.  The proper way to retire a flag that is worn or damaged is to burn it.  This is the respectful way to retire the flag, and it is part of a ceremony.  Desecrating the flag in protest by burning it is different, since you are taking an in-tact flag and destroying it.  It's not a hard concept to understand.

Ummm . . . no.  A ceremony is just procedure, and does not denote religious intent.  Otherwise, retirement ceremonies are religious events as well . . . and I think the only time I heard "religion" mentioned in the ceremony is when the guy said "Thank God I can sleep in tomorrow."

Well then.  The flag is not my country... My country is my country...  Also, like Tweed said, you are not defending your country by sacking and assaulting a flag desecrator.  You are violating its laws and bringing down the country.  If you feel the need to kill people threatening your nation I recommend flying yourself to Tehran or Pyongyang and having some fun for yourself.

And let's face it, carrying the flag against gun fire is not strategic if you wanted to keep soldiers alive, so we sort of let that practice slip especially when machine guns came along.

I would stop someone who desecrated the flag at Iwo Jima becase that is not their flag and have no right to damage the property of someone else.  However if I saw someone buy a flag and proceed to spit on it, that is their right to do with their property.

Finally, if flag burning was banned people would see it as an affront to do what they wish with their property.  What would happen?  Mass flag burning demonstrations nationwide.  Enough to overflow holding centers.  So it would not be intelligent to instate that.  I would consider burning a flag in protest if they actually did that, though otherwise I wouldn't.  Burning the flag is the ultimate symbol of showing your beliefs on your nation.  When you believe your nation has fallen to a point that is beyond disgusting, burning the flag can symbolize it.

What has happened to people in this country? I swear. Back in the time when people loved their country they would fight and DIE for their flag. During the Civil War it was a great HONOR to carry the banner (of either nation) when the man carrying it was killed another brave individual would step right up and grab it and if he was shot he would have been glad to take that bullet for his country. Nowadays, I could probably go up to the Iwo Jima monument, take down the flag, stomp and spit on it and I bet people like Lunar or Tweed wouldn't give a second thought about it because "it's just a flag". When you step on the nations flag you are stepping on a symbol of everything that nation stands for. You can bet your ass if I saw someone spit on my flag and stomp it into the ground I'd beat their ass in a heartbeat.

People don't care any more.  They worry more about themselves and what's good for them rather than what's good for the country.  Part of it is partisan politics polluting their thoughts, other is the affluence of the nation, making people more materiallistic.

Amen to that! The spoiled brats like Ebowed, Tweed and Jersualemcar have proved that in this thread!

If Mr. Tough Guy is going to beat up every person who desecrates a flag, why do you need to make it illegal?

Still waiting
