Like what is even the point in this? Seems like a solution in search of a problem.

The Governor of California literally banned singing at church over coronavirus. Seriously, if the scary germs are sooooo bad that the bill of rights is just dead, then yeah kick out any foreign student who can just as easily take online classes. The priorities the leftwing tyrants have is equally infuriating to us. If its ok to strip us of the 1st amendment, then its more than ok to kick out people who dont even need to be here. You want Trump not to do this, leave the churches alone. You cant claim aliens residing here on student visas while only going to online classes is more important than religious worship. We are done with the lying politicians and phony "experts" obliterating the bill of rights but only for those they disagree with. They pulled down another Serra statue by mob in Cali yesterday. Focus on that schit before you target churches.

You can worship at home. You can pray at home. My church put services online. Your First Amendment rights are still there.

You can take online classes at home. You cannot receive catholic rites at home.

Just as an aside, you can get (most) Catholic rites at home, or at least in my parish you can. We had one of our priests come by our house for Confession, Eucharist, and even Anointing of the Sick for my pregnant wife a couple weeks back. Sacraments of Initiation are more difficult to do at home, but I don't think it's impossible.

Yeah, my girlfriend is worried about this too. We both just graduated, but if this keeps up, she won't be able to stay in the US and go to law school if it's all still online come next fall.

Sorry to hear. I hope your girlfriend's law school finds a workaround as well.

Sorry to hear that, Antonio. Hope things work out for you.

The folks on this thread talking about church don't even have the principles to speak on it. If you think you need a building to worship then you don't understand God (for those who believe in God). Some of these churches are just full of gossips and grifters anyway, so it's not like they are anything more than nightclubs for holy rollers.

Corporeal worship is a fundamental aspect of almost every major religion; and restrictions on such implicate the Free Exercise clause.

Speak for own religion. Judaism says that you can and should break religious laws if it means saving a life.

Enjoy France buddy.

You know, at least mr. Reactionary is lashing out over things he sees as injustices. Although I feel he's more often than not chasing chimeras IMHO, and unfortunately being callous towards Antonio's plight in the process, at least he's trying to stand for something. You however, are explicitly going out of your way just to be a jerk to Antonio.

Stay classy, buddy.
I'm standing for America First, even in the classroom, and I'm standing with Mr. R. in regards to the Bolshevik attacks on religion, which AntonioV fully supports.

Ah yes, "America First," now characterized by stranding international students in the middle of a pandemic, while depriving America's economy of billions of dollars of revenue.

You know, billions of dollars that you're now sending to somewhere other than America.

What do international students fueling our economy and contributing tax dollars for benefits that they won't receive have to do with the sovereignty of the United States? They don't get to vote or make political decisions in this country, and neither do the governments of the countries from which they came.

Then perhaps the Jews should stay home and the Pentecostals go and worship? What is so hard about that?

How do low paying American students save space? An international student is subsidizing American tuition effectively. Although I do find it funny that people don't realize this aspect with legacy admissions.

That's not how the system works. American students are subsidized by the much larger tuition fees that international students pay. Furthermore, there's no "space" to save, since they have already been admitted, live here, and contribute to both the local and national economies.

"Saving space" has nothing to do with COVID-19, and if anything, online courses can spare more "space," since everything is online.

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/immigration/ice-tells-foreign-students-leave-u-s-if-their-school-n1233026

Quote
WASHINGTON — The government announced Monday that international students will not be allowed to stay in the country if the institution in which they're enrolled is holding online-only courses this fall, and those failing to comply with the rules will risk deportation.

Students on F-1 and M-1 visas who face such a situation "must depart the country or take other measures, such as transferring to a school with in-person instruction to remain in lawful status," the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency said in a news release.

So... yeah. It seems some people on here might finally get their wish.

Yeah, my girlfriend is worried about this too. We both just graduated, but if this keeps up, she won't be able to stay in the US and go to law school if it's all still online come next fall.

This is awful guys, wishing you the best. Hopefully the new policy is challenged in Court ASAP.

I'm not sure what Antonio's situation has to do with church, statues, hymns, the sacraments of initiation, Junipero Serra, or any related topic. I'm saying this as someone who's not exactly happy about statues of my religion's holy figures being defaced myself.

Also, Sanchez, what the hell happened, man? You used to be above this kind of petty cruelty.

Surely it shouldn't be that difficult to empathize with Antonio, Dule and many others affected by that kind of policy rather than go into absurdly petty rants. This is one hell of a depressing thread.
