I remember being a bit more confident about Obama winning in 2012. It just seemed like a very predictable race, and too many swing states needed to go Romney's way for him to win. A lot of this is probably colored by the fact that I was only in my early teens then and didn't really understand how polling worked. I think looking back at the data now, I would conclude that Biden is in better shape than Obama was then.

Objectively, Biden is in a better position, but the outcome is SO much more dystopic if he loses that I'm a lot more nervous anyway.

I think objectively Biden is in a better position than Obama was in 2012. I remember up until the results started coming in on election night thinking that 2012 was gonna be a dead heat in the mold of 2004 or even 2000, but to my surprise that thankfully didn't happen, as Obama kicked Romney's ass. That said, even if Biden is objectively in a better position, I can't help but still feel a bit nervous given how unhinged Trump and the GOP are and given the lengths they'd go to challenge and possibly overturn the result. Even in 2012, at least the rank and file of the GOP, would've (even if begrudgingly) accepted an Obama win.
