I lean blackface because it would be harder to excuse. That KKK costume could be called a farce. Or maybe Northam could claim he was a Nazareno.

He's dressed as a klansman to drink beer not to lynch people. It's performance art. To the extent there should be any controversy, only blackface should be controversial in this context. I see a much smaller problem with his actual outfit.
