The 1950s were peak Burkean/traditional conservatism, the 1980s were peak American conservatism (spicy take)

(obviously I prefer American conservatism)

Agreed, and I too prefer the 80s version, though the 50s had some advantages.

The 1950s were more socially conservative and the 1980s were more fiscally conservative.

The 1950s were more socially conservative and the 1980s were more fiscally conservative.

If we were to make a political compass, what would the left be? 1960’s/2010’s seems the most current, though comparisons could stretch back into the 30’s.

Moderately economically liberal but extremely socially conservative.

Only if you do a direct comparison between the 1950s and today but on social issues the country clearly moved to the left in the 1950s

while it moved to the right in the 1980s and 2000s.

I would say overall these are the 5 most conservative decades since the 1910s

1. 1920s
2. 2000s
3. 1980s
4. 1990s
5. 1950s

I would say the 2000s were more socially conservative than the 1980s

During the 2000s you had a far more socially conservative President than you did in the 1980s, Partial Birth Abortion Was Banned, and laws wise went to the right on Gay Marriage while in the 1980s really nothing changed.

Massachusetts legalized Gay Marriage in the early to mid 2000's and Public Opinion on it began shifting leftward in the later half of that decade.  It was in the '80's that the Country went rightward on LGBT rights/issues due to the AIDS epidemic. Plus, entertainment/pop culture was far more Liberal/Vulgar in the 2000's (1st year or 2 after 9/11 aside) than it was in the '80's. As far as the Abortion issue is concerned, by that logic this decade thus far would be Conservative given the bans and restrictions on it that have been placed at the state level in Republican run states.

In the '80s, PG movies showed topless women and movie theaters and VHS retailers often didn't ID.
