Education led to the Renaissance and then the Enlightenment, which then brought about a wave of political philosophers like Locke, Rousseau, and others, who then led to the American and French Revolutions, which spread the idea of a strong representative democracy (either as a republic or a very limited monarchy retained yet as a figurehead). This then reinforced Education, with the founders believing such a democracy could only survive if its voting population was well-educated, and the education system was created. It was education, agreeing on universal truths and making rational decisions based on those universal truths, that ended the Age of Absolute Monarchy.

With the decline of civics education and the increasing partisanship growing to encompass everything, from government to the traditional media to social media to schools themselves... the idea of universal truths is ending, with significant minorities if not outright majorities siding with Tribalism over not only scientific and historical truths when convenient for their political Tribe but even basic reality such as what a political leader might have clearly been recorded to say or do.

If this trend accelerates unchecked into the future, could the logical conclusion be for the victorious tribe to install their beloved, uncritically-trusted leaders as a new Monarch and supporting Nobility, in power and role if not in name?

Fake news is not remotely a new phenomenon. In fact, it's far more dangerous that the term has become a meme: it means that legions of people don't bother reading new information critically but just screech "fake news!!!" without thinking.

Certain political factions spent decades attacking orthodox truth. Now that they comprise the cultural elite, they suddenly realize how dangerous that is. Meanwhile, the right embraces subjectivity.
