I don't mean that they are literally not there, I mean my eye doesn't notice them.  I suspect it's because 98% of the time pinned threads are rules I don't need to be reminded of or "introduce yourself" type things that are way too long for any sane person with limited amount of time to actually read through.  Anybody else like this?

Depends. Sometimes what you say is right, but there are pinned threads, like the 2020 tea leaves, that my eyes automatically check.

The same happened to me when muon was telling me to post something in a certain pinned thread. I thought I was dumb or I needed glasses. LOL

Because for some of them, if they weren't pinned, they would literally be invisible in the sense that they'd be buried under dozens of pages, never to be seen again.

As for other examples, in the Congressional/Gubernatorial boards, I've tried to pin threads that are useful to upcoming elections, such as recruitment or special election threads. I think in that case it makes it easier for people to access because their is regular chatter anyway, and hopefully in some cases the ease of access may even increase the activity (although doubtful I think)
