Simple question - is there anything in your life that you would put your life on the line for? Anything you'd fight for or simply risk your life to attain or defend? Of course, your own life being directly threatened and fighting for that doesn't count.

I risk my life everyday for trivial things, it's just the risk is also very small.  So it would depend on the amount of risk and the amount of effect the effort would have.

I guess, but it would have to be something pretty important obviously.

I wasn't talking about the risk you take when driving your car when the chance is virtually negligible if you aren't doing something really stupid, more along the lines where there is a serious chance of dying, like a fight to the death over something or climbing an extremely dangerous mountain(say, Everest) for the challenge of it.

if I had children, I might.
Let's say right now the US is overrun by Communists, or the current administration creates a police state (I'm just using an example, Phillip, BRTD relax).  If I pretty much knew, or had a very certain feeling my going to war against the invaders of freedom meant my death, but it would ensure the liberty of my children, I would take that risk.

You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What will you do with that freedom? Will you fight? Aye, fight and you may die, run and you'll live. At least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!

If I lived in a right wing dictatorship or a country ran by someone like Enver Hoxha or Nicolae Ceasescu, I'd join any guerilla rebellion against them.

For God and Country, I'd risk my life for.

Add in family, for good measure.

Remember though -- sometimes there will be a situation where you'll have to choose to risk your life for a reason that may not even be able to fathom. Whether it be for a friend, stranger, something entirely different.

Can't really say as an absolute certainty.  It usually is a complete unknown until the time actually arises, at which some people do things that they never thought they'd be able to do, and others fail to do things that they thought that they would be able to do.

Things that I have a feeling I would risk my life for, however, include my future children and wife (which presumably will exist sometime), and the freedom of my fellow countrymen - essentially, I would risk my life for anything without which life would lose its meaning and happiness.

Family, especially my sister's children.
Freedom of Finland
Existence of mankind

In fact, I would risk my life also if helpless people were in serious danger.

Well, I figure I might as well go ahead and tell everyone my obvious answer: yes.

What is it that I am willing to risk my life for? Even if there were nothing else worthy of me risking my life for, my own liberty is reason enough.

"War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." - John Stuart Mill

liberating iraq and destroying their stockpile of wmd.

more like...

Invading a sovereign nation, occupy it, absorb their natural resources, and destroying their nonexistent stockpile of wmd.

^^^^^

I would add my Country.  Not sure if that was one of his "Several things" or not, but it would definatly be for me.
